Thread: Check Engine Light Flashing -- Car Sputtering

    1. 05-02-2007 11:29 AM #1
My check engine light today started flashing as I went to go up a hill...

I was told about a month ago that I had an exhaust leak, but it wasn't the biggest and not to worry about it for the time being.

Now my car has started to "sputter" on acceleration and the CEL is flashing non-stop. It seems as if the engine isn't getting power, or the catalytic coverter would be blocked.. but I had taken it to my local exhaust man, and he said it didn't sound like the cat was blocked, but that there might be a sensor gone that is making it be this way.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, as I haven't been able to hook it up to diagnostics yet.... that I will be doing today in about 3 hours.

coilpack is misfiring. there may be cracks in it. check and change if so before it looks like this..

mine was doing the same thing yours was. cel was flashing, losing power, and caught on fire

Dude, are you talking about your too-thousa-one-an-a-half Passat,
or you have a B3/B4 also?

might be O2 sensors... does it happen more in wet weather? My I needed Os sensors in mine this past summer because it was sputtering.
