Germantown road has a lot of good twists, and many elevation changes that make it fun as hell to drive.

there are roads like that all over the northwest. There are some good roads in the mountains heading up towards Mt. Rainier.. same to Mt. St. Helens. Chuckanut drive is pretty good.. albeit crowded and short. Mercer Island has some sweet roads.. though full of rich people who like to drive 20mph. Cornelius Pass west of Portland has a good stretch of road. My favorite bit of road is nearly a 2 hour stretch that goes from Port Angeles, WA out to Neah Bay.. using US-101 and SR-112.
There was a 'great driving roads' thread, or something like that, a year or so ago that had some good maps and pictures.

You want a road with a lot of twist, drive wolf creek road. I recked my 88 gti 16v going up that road about mile post 9 1/2. My back end found a patch of rocks, and my cluch was sleping do to oil seal which i did not know was out at the time, any ways its gone now.. And al of its componets went into my MK1 Rabbit...![]()
You will not find a twister road then wolf creek road, recomend speed along that road is 15mph, its fun at 60 or more...

As rootrider said, Chuckanut is pretty good, but you have to get there early in the morning for it to be worth it. It's too crowded and there are too many pedestrians. Mt. Baker Highway during the summer can be pretty intense. I know of a road up here as well, but it's only about 15 seconds long, but DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh... I just got a clue. Oohhhhh.... Ohhhph Frank! I have such a raging clue right now, I think we better follow it.

NF-25 and NF-90 on the east and south end of Mt St Helens is a blast to drive.

Humphrey blvd in sw portland up in the heights. its a 2 mile road, with 15 mile an hour corners. it has some of the best switchbacks and broad turns. it looks like a race track set in a forested mountainous area. i live right by this road, and i look for every damn excuse to drive it at least once a day in my rabbit and jetta. mapquest st. thomas moore church and the start is right there at the top of patton rd. cheers

agreed.. there is also skyline road in s. salem where it leads down to the flats from chinook estates to the bottom... crazy turns, massive brake stomps all the way down... come back up the hill and do some nice 1 wheel lifts staying deep in 2nd gear.... if you want a challenge for your brakes and your driving skills, this will do it..
another fun road in s. salem is croisan creek about a 2 mile stretch of 15mph curves.. watch out for someone coming the other way and the po-po... they like to watch and hand out tickets...

just as he was saying: Beavecreek rd from hwy 213, down to 211...lots of nice 25/35 mph corners. with strut bars, you can take the 35s at 75.
trust me.

I don't know if anyone her said i yet, i'm too lazy to read the whole thread. But there's always Dash Point in Federal Way (135 miles north of the WA/OR border on I-5) Fun as hell just doing the speed limit. If you're looking for somewhere to test new suspension or something where you're going to want to push it, please don't go here. Kids used to try to beat the "time record" when I was in jr high/high school and in those 6 years i can think of at least 2 seperate people ( i think there was 2 in the car each time) off the top of my head that died there.

Bump. It's been awhile but still looking for some roads to drive.

Wilsonville rd between Newberg and Wilsonville is pretty good. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but my dad has told me Haugen rd off highway 99w outside of Newberg is good. I think he called it 29 corners or something because it has that many switchback turns, plus it is up in the hills so elevation changes. I believe its newly repaved too

FWIW, I tell all my loved ones to stay as far away from Germantown Rd. as possible. This is a curvy road in a mostly suburban area that attracts a lot of cyclists and walkers. This is not an area for spirited driving. There are blind driveways and very sharp corners.
All I know is that no one I care about is going to get mowed down by some idiot trying to imitate Walter Rohrl.
Not that I'm trying to stir the pot or anything.

I agree. The only part of skyline I ever drive for the fun of it is from Kaiser Rd to Skyline Rd. Then I hop on Skyline from there. At least on the midpoint of Germantown it doesn't seem to be so crowded.
Hwy 53 is a really good road which is why I chose it for my cruise this upcoming weekend. It is pretty rough in spots but its still enjoyable even at the speed limit until you learn where the bad spots are at.

E Larch Mt Rd outside of CorbettWhen theres no cyclists
SE Marmot from Sandy to Brightwood or any backroad off Hwy 26 goin to Mt Hood.
