Hey, maybe I'm the first here. Picked up a 2008 Turbo Variant today. It's deep black, manual 6-speed. I like the additional equipment for the "base" model--Catalunya wheels, a bit of chrome, power driver seat. Probably would've like more options and conceptually I hate that you're limited to the Turbo trim if you want a stick shift. The iPod aux plug's now in the center armrest compartment. But I didn't plan on buying a car right now anyway--my (sniff) departed B5 was flooded, the computer was hosed so my insurer totalled it. The differences between the two are interesting. Being the first day, I didn't push it, but i could feel the additional power. And the 2.0T engine is a lot quieter. Love the stick--I drove an automatic B6 for a weekend when VW lent them at the intro, this feels more, I dunno, tied down?
Pix when I get some and figure out how to post them....

Finally had a chance to take some nicer pics of the wagon with the new highline roof rails installed, on a sunny day with a nice, clean car...so I figured I'd whore them out here!:

nice man !!!!!
you should come out on Thursday nights at the Hooters in West Palm !

Thanks Gary...I'd love to, but I'm a slave to my work and too old to handle going out on worknights! As I get close to 40, I enjoy more and more coming home from work at 6pm and settling in for the night. If I went out on Thursday night, even if I got back home by 9 or 10, I'd be up until 4am - it'd mess with my schedule! Having to wake for work at 7:30 would be impossible - I'd be a zombie all day.Make it Fri or Sat, and I could make it...but Sun through Thu - I'm in my jammies by then.

White 2007 2.0T w/ Package 1, 16" wheels. Company car - replaced a B5.5 wagon. Noisy car...has this weird howling sort of sound like a cupped tire but the dealer's put new bearings in all wheels and a new set of tires. Sound persists. Took me for a drive in a sedan with the same wheels - had the same sound. Nice car, but I guess I'm just sensitive to that noise. Bugs me.Then again, it IS a free car for me so I'd better stop whining....

I am having the same problem right now, it feels almost like the tires or wheels are out of round, and it makes that helicopter sound like a window is open, but very slight, not as loud

I notice the same howling sound as well, I hope it's not wheel bearings. Will ask dealer to check it on my 20K service.

I doubt it's bearings, my car only has 2500 miles and it just recently started doing this too. I think it's wind related
#87
Our car did a front right bearing at 8000km... apparantely first Passat in Australia to do itIt's been good since... it's done 30000km in a year!

Guys, thanks for the affirmation that I'm not insane nor is my dealer telling me fibs. It's not a wheel bearing. It wasn't tires. My dealer went thru all sort of efforts with this car to try and sort out the noise. But the noise is just there. Darned irritating but it is just plain there.
and I'm gonna have to learn to deal with it.
What really grapes my squildo is that VW would let the cars be sold making this noise. I think it's pretty poor on their part.
On another note
I did fit Eurotails to my Variant...no rear fog, just the yellow turns. I think they're safer, never mind that they look neat

So, let me get this straight: the terms"wagon", "estate", "variant" & "avant" basically describe the same type of vehicle....more or less.....?

Towing stuff - Wired for towing with a 7-way plug. Prodigy P3 brake controller. Class 1 hitch. Drawbar with a 9" rise.
Car stuff - APR Badge
, H&R springs, NSP boost gauge, In.Pro smoked front and mirror signals, back-up camera (soon to be on the trailer).
I know I'm gonna get a million questions about the trailer, so here:
It's a 1500 lbs, hard sided A-frame. Wiring the car was not easy. I had to buy a brake controller, and a light controller (Reese Modulite), do a ton of research, and give it to the dealer for 2 days. It's wired directly from the outputs on the lighting computer. The 7-way plug includes back-up lights plus the usual left-right-stop-marker-12V-ground-brakes.

Beauty, eh! Sport. Utility. VW.Wagons rule...
2010 Passat Variant Komfort : Island Gray : 2.0 TSI + DSG, FTW!

As a side note: the auto-hold really helps when pulling a trailer. The car's a stick.

Should I paint the grille body colour or flat black? Anybody able to photoshop it?
The first line of defense is You. H&R springs Bilstein sports APR stage 1, maybe exhaust on the way.
#97
Even with the trailer, it still sits great with the springs.
