Thread: How to catch a bird. (pics)

  1. 06-17-2007 01:47 PM #1
    1. Have car with massive functional hood scoop.
    2. Just drive normally, bird will find you.
    3. ....
    4. Profit.

This is probably the freakiest thing to happen to me driving. I was driving this morning when a bird flew pretty low in front of my car. I didn't think I hit it but didn't see it on the ground behind me.

Well it turns out, my car ate the bird.

  4. 06-17-2007 01:53 PM #4
    fmic ftw

  5. 06-17-2007 01:54 PM #5
Thats seriously depressing. I could usually care less but that thing looks so helpless...

  6. 06-17-2007 01:57 PM #6

You know... i can find some place to pick up almost any dead, wild animal with my bare hands... But for some reason, i hate touching birds too... they gross me out. In fact, birds in general are gross. I dont know why.

Awesome that it made it all the way to your firewall, and didnt just get stuck onto the front of the intake like they usually do.

PETA better step in here and ban US spec cars from having hood scoops that large.

This is an outrage. Not to mention the endagered species of birds that are being caught and chewed up by fast moving (speeding most likely!) vehicles driven by car enthusiasts.

*dialing DNR PETA & GW BUSH* right now.

Good thing you didn't have the intercooler there, that could have been messier. And let me be the first to say to the bird, "that'll buff right out"

Are you serious? because if so, you better make sure everyone knows to stop building houses/roads/freeways/schools/stores and anything else that humans can drive on or go into. Because every time you build a new building/road you destroy some living things habitat. So make sure PETA knows that when I build my house I'm sure a little bunny rabbit family is gonna die.

At least you looked before it started to smell. That, and I would have loved to have seen that in the oncoming lane.

I caught one in my grille once. I won't pirate the thread (unless everyone wants to see it) but it was similarly splayed out in mid-flight form, stuck in the slats. It really is hard to tell if you hit anything - doesn't even make a sound. In fact, the one I hit was at night, and it was there until morning.

...pulling it out made me want to vomit

I *was* going to shoot an email off to PETA about the dangers of Subarus of all things to their precious little wing-ed friends, just to get a reaction, but not surprisingly, you can't really contact them.

A buddy of mine brought his Carrera GT to my store one day. I walked out to admire the car, and there is a tuft of feathers sticking to the door, and some red sticky stuff strewn down the side of the car. Underneath the front bumpter, is another tuft of feathers stuck to the carbon fiber splitter. It looks like he ran over a bird, and it was ejected out of the front fender arch, (in pieces) and shot down the side of the car. I wish I had taken pictures.

lol my old subaru ate a bird (or two) as well. Definitely wasn't that easy of a clean up though.

That said, the worst I've had by far was a '32 Deuce Coupe being driven to a show. Picture the grille - numerous polished stainless steel bars made up this one in the original Radiator surround. Each one was polished and actually ground to a slight knife edged point. Took out a poor blue jay - thing never saw it coming. It literally sliced it into a ton of pieces. THAT sucked to clean up. That was one of those... stop at a you spray it yourself place on the way and rewash the entire car, on top of that spend about 20 minutes focusing on the grille, radiator, hood sides and under carriage, etc. and then burn up a bottle of QD once at the show after applying a quick coat of S100. Yeah. that kind of..really. really. sucked.

    make shiny.
If crazy paid the bills.. I'd be freaking rich.

My dad has hit anumber of birds while driving his 5 car ramp-truck, ranging from the usual pigeon to a seagull!

Yea and what is it with birds trying to get eaten by Subarus! I bought mine a few weeks ago and it seems like every bird wants to die by my hands!
