i have a b4 bumper on my b3. just trying to get back to a OEM.

MY CAR IS ALIVE AGAIN! fuel pump went up when my ecu caught fire. replaced the fuel pump and ecu and it fired right up... (in a good way of course) haha

got a new trunk lid, grill, and headlights for $60 from some dude off craigslist haha SCORE!

started body work and sanding the car down for paint today. hopefully will be sprayed next week.... (ill be the only b3 passat thats bed lined at h20 haha)

starting the plans for the 288 b3 vr6SC build for next year! just got the new motor in. might start me a build thread
All the wheel gap in this thread scares me

you own a VW and nothing has ever broke???? WHAT!

So my front end decided to fail all at once and destroy my tires, soooooo I decided to replace tie rods, ball joints, and control arm bushings.

Decided to tear down today and ended up doing this.

    1. Stripped the set screw for the brake rotors. Not terrible but is inconvenient.

    2. Tie Rods were basically welded to the steering knuckle so that was fun to press out. They have never been replaced it seems.

    3. Finally got to the control arms and this is what happened. Sheared the front bushing bolt off in the subframe.....................

I swear I didn't gorilla it but the bushing have probably never been changed in 180,000 miles so the last time that bolt left its place of residence was the factory. Im optimistic on getting it out but if I cant. I may be in the market for a subframe or junkyarding it up....

Ok so this is not just today but I got it finished today. Four long late nights and one early morning before work is what it took to get my fule filter and pump changed (the one outside the tank). We had all kinds of trouble. The bently is worthless and I couldn't find anything on here. So it was a lot of trial and error. Taking it apart and putting back together till we figured out how to get it done. To only find more problems. Like the aircraft grade fule lines and the fact that the fule filter and fittings are not stock. Some one switched the passat filter for a volvo filter. One side is the same hardware but the other is side used a smaller bolt and banjo fitting. My local parts store saved me by finding the filter with no info or part #. It's a perfect match. I also installed ZXE headlights and I can see now. If you don't have ecodes look at these.

Oh yea I know that but volvo filter has a bolt that's to small so until I do a fule system upgrade I'm stuck with it.

CAI? I ran into a puddle that was up to my trim on the sides of my car... didn't suck up a drop of water.

I was at a slight decline and gunned it, feel beyond retarded now. Some guy is selling a VR with a tranny to me for a decent price so I might have it back running soon.

It doesn't turn over at all, I probably wrecked my starter trying to blow the water out with the plugs out. Tried to pop start it and it's just not turning over so I expect a destroyed connecting rod.

Thanks but I'm in now after 3 days of trying. I started to fear some did something like thread lock on it. Couple of squirts of wd40 and it just came right off.

VAG-COM will always show the VSS error when you scan the ECU and the car is not moving.

G68 is the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the transmission - it's what makes your speedo and ODO move. Takes all of 54 seconds to replace it.

Today I picked up a 97 Volvo 850 turbo AWD 5-speed wagon. It's kinda badass.

Technically, it was last Wednesday, but I picked up the $40 NOS rear wagen cover that I found on th Denver CraigsList from a Ducati buddy that was kind enough th schlep it out on his way to Laguna Seca. It'll get shot at the same time as the 95% mint front cover & the ol' wagen'll be happy again. Just need to get the starting issues ironed out...

Finally got some lights for my license plate. Now I don't have to worry about those pesky cops freaking out at night because it's not illuminated.
