I cleaned her up a bit. First bath since she came into my possession 3 weeks ago. Bath, clay bar (OMG at the crap embedded in the paint!!), and quickie wax. Oh and a little trim detailer. Nothing too involved...
BTW ignore the plate, it's obviously referencing my mk2, but I needed a euro plate upfront to cover the 5 FREAKING HOLES someone drilled to mount god knows what on the front bumper. I'll get a B4 specific on soon enough.
The coilpacks don't like getting wet BTW.. had to shoot them down with some WD40 to get the car idling right again..
I'm not quite done putting the interior back together. Kind of holding off till I can find a console without a broken lid.

Had to go downtown for national vehicle inspection service, failed miserably.
Condition was so bad, they almost detained the car because of severe problems with safety essential parts.
I now have 4 weeks to have all of the stuff they listed fixed.

stuff like what?
i started putting the hella leveling system in my sedan after almost 3 years of having the parts in a box from germany in the attic.
i was terrified of wiring spaghettis and messing up the connections under the dash as i attempted the swap.
to my surprise everything was plug and play; no extra wires; no missing wires.
as a note; i learned the europian wire harness for the headlight switch is one single loom at the fusebox connection. the canadian market has a single wire that branches off. probably it has to do with the daytime running lights.
i also installed the foglight switch and harness for it.
the us market harness is run along the rear defroster; same as the euro harness. no differences there.
the headlight leveling system loom is the same as the us/canadian market loom at the back of the fusebox.
the beauty of ce2.
it simply has 1 loom of 4 wires to a red connector that attaches to the loom coming from the dash mounted switch; and one extra wire that connects to the grey color block of single prong connections.
really easy swap.
i want to kick myself for not attempting this sooner.
i have all the wire harness in the footweel of the driver side front . i want to run all the lights and test the system before i actually rip out the factory harness.
looking at the routing of the harness of the headlights and the fender side repeaters; i think now is the time to also install the headlight washer system on the car; since i will be removind the airbox; the radiator overflow bootle and some other piping int he engine bay to lay the leveling system harness; i might as weel run the other wire harness for the washer system at this time.
next after i install this will be installing the dash in; put new parking brake cables to finish the mk4 rear caliper swap; decide if i keep the b3 rear centre console in black to make use of the cassette holder i have or switch over to the b4 rear arm rest console style for practicality.

well today i finished testing the hella e-codes and leveling system in the car BEFORE ripping the factory set-up out.
i had everything plug at the back of the fuse box; and with a set of jumper cables i fed power to the single red cable that is supposed to be attached ot the batery positive; and the other one ot the ground also.
remember my completre wire harness i am looking at installing was inside the passenger compartment awaiting testing before installation.
i plug the headlights; side fender repeaters; and motors.
everything works NICE.
the one thing i would have liked better is if the side marker repeaters could alternate with the front turn signals when you engage the turn signal switch.
factory they work at the same time. i wanted alternate. i have seen modifications on the mk3 forums and rado forums to make that work; but i do not want to start cutting and splicing into a harness that came all the way from germany.
as i started removing the canadian harness in the engine bay side; the last step was to pull it out of the wirewall towards the fornt of the car; and that is when i realised the single plug for the washer fluid pump is part of the loom of harness inside the boot that goes through the firewall.
my question here is to someone in canada that has worked on retofitting or removing a headlight washer system. as i am about to install the same system on this car from a donor ( i do not have that wire harness at hand now) does the headlight washer system loom run by itself through the firewall? or is it part of the headlight loom also?

Inner and outer tie rods, plus lower ball joints all changed out on the Passat today. The steering rack boots are both ripped though, so new ones on order. Now I have to hold out for alignment till they arrive since the outer tie rods will have to come back off. And even though I tried to match the old tie rods for length, I can visually see that the wheels are toed out a bit.

I THNK I IWLL DEISCONNECT THEM FOR SUMMER USE OF THE CAR.

i finally finished removing the skeleton of the front bumper skin to be rebuilt.
i will be posting a do it yourself thread sometime in the next week or.
finally a proper b3 front bumper repair. none of that screws and glue kind of repairs.
it has taken me 5 years to find a good used bumper; now in the procces of hacking up a second bumper to put foglights and washer nozzles into my sedan; on the driveway for the past 3 years; i came accross an oportunity to have a third bumper skeleton( the one with all the vertical ribs) rebuilt by a body shop i work at and i want to make a thread about that.
so anyone that wants to have a good front bumper can repair theirs or i will start saling these repaired int he future.
on a second note; i installed the half done original bumper of my sedan with the headlight washer nozzles and fogs oem today.
i like it.
now i realized how big the gap between the pavement and the front spoiler is;![]()
i will take the front suspension off my syncro sedan and put it into the 16v sedan; to see how it looks. the syncro is supposed to have a 2 " drop in it.

Replacing the primary 02 sensor on these things, may be the biggest headache I have ever come across in my history of working on cars. Ever.

Purchased a rear wiper motor. I got a glas cover for the hole in the rear window but the foil that is inbetween the two layers looks like sh** now.
I wanna go for the new design, if I manage to take of the glas cover without crushing anything.

Still rides pretty well. Wasnt noticed during inspection, I ordererd a new spring today but I got to show up for the "reinspection" with that spring.
They didnt notice the first time, and since it does not say anything about this on the report, the hopefully wont this time.

Put a new wheel bearing/hub in and going to get the alignment done after work. Pulled the front down about 10 more threads in front and about 20 in the back to even it out. When i bought the coils and tires i under estimated the height difference between stock Passat suspension and the Jetta coils. I bought 50 series tires because i figured that a 40 would beat up the wheels too much. of course hind sight is 20/20, i wish i would have gotten 45 series tires now cause i cant pull the fronts down enough.
My coils are a tad preloaded and im rubbin with rolled fenders. I don't really care about being super low but i know the front is a tad stiffer than it could be because of balloon tires.
Hopefully Mr. Alignment man will do some camber magic and work it out a bit better.
