    let's see....

last saturday i got brand new OEM headlight from a car in the JY, joey modded them that night.

last wednesday my car was involved in a very minor fender bender....notified the insurance and dropped it off at the body shop for an estimate...insurance told me its a total loss...

yesterday i removed the rear bumper to see how bad it really was, and none of the core supports have a mark on them so its just minor sheet metal to fix, so that made up my mind.

today i bought it back from the insurance company so i can fix it, i will take pics of the damage to bring with me to vehicle inspection after it is fixed, when they see the extent of the damage they will not give it a salvaged title, here in washington there is certain criteria a vehicle has to fall under to give it a salvage title, and it has to meet all of the criteria, my car only meets one of the three things it has to meet, so it shouldn't get a salvage title at all.

Got my interior back together mostly after doing extensive harness mods, fixes, dash mods and a new heater core. Came out of it with airbag light, ABS hydrolic pump code, and Hvac that doesn't work quite they way it used to. Next is crack pipe/thermostat houseing, water pump, coolant flush and change for G12.

What did I do to my Passat today.... I went and Bought it!
it's a 97 GLX wagon, beat to isht, body wise and high miles, it was only 800 bucks however, so it's all good!! It needs a heater core done, it's bypassed right now, and the power steering is not working well, hopefully both easy fixes. I saw the heater core replacemnt FAQ, looks easy but time consuming, the good thing is, everything else works, all electrics, including heated seats, all windows, doors, etc work, drives nice, my first VR6, my 11th VW, it's gonna be a GREAT winter beater!!!

  8. 09-01-2007 09:57 PM #113
The one thing I did do to my "new" Passat, other than race-er- drive it home was I put in the 4 digit code in, radio now works, PO had jury rigged stereo- no radio, stock one was there, he just didn't know how to put the code in, and didn't realize the code was written on the side of the radio....

I pretty much have the entire top end of the engine compartment out. Thought I had a bad head gasket, but turned out to be old head bolts and severely clogged exhaust valve on # 6, showed no compression, the car just died and i don't have vag and no vw shop. so I ordered a new gasket and bolts, ups is not delivering on the long weekend.

So Today I flushed all remaining coolant from the block, dremeled the sticky valve and preped for the day when I get my parts.

today i spent all day preppin mine for paint...i remove literally everything except the window and mirrors.

i even remove the drip rails and only broke 3 clips

and all the black stuff i removed got kiwi'd or repainted, i swear its gonna look like a new car when i get it back, i just hope all my prepwork makes it turn out better than their typical paint jobs (Maaco)

Came out of it with airbag light,

You just need to clear the codes and the light will go off. It happens if you disconnect and reconnect the air bags. It did the same thing when I did my heater core.

it never showed a code on my scanner or on the VAG.

newer cars will pop a code for an airbag, but i really dont think ours will

Happened with mine too, but that's because I don't have an airbag anymore. I will pull the bulb if I ever feel like it
