Saw a DBP last night on 6th in DT LA...looked pretty stock besides the tinted windows. I pulled up right next to you before you pulled over and parked...your car looks like its never been washed..wash that poor thing!

Right after that I saw a Silver MkV GTI with a Porsche "turbo" badge on the back and Audi "S-Line" badge on the side, LOL.
If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.
    Help us with suspension specs!

I've been looking for the perfect Dub to buy for over two years now. I spotted one just before I left the used lot; two hours later I drove it home!

So lucky...just about missed my dream car. #3044.

I believe it came from the Connecticut area...anyone know anything about this R?

New to the VW scene...any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. PM me please.

    p.s. I'm looking for an owner's manual.

Only other one I know of is a TR in the Blacksburg/Roanoke area...~3 hours to the west of here.
I'm in/around richmond alot, Mom lives up there, I'm about 1 1/2 hours away. UG tinted. I've seen a couple DBP and a TR around west end/short pump area. Always wave but nothing back.

Seen a Silver MKiV R32 at HHGregg.

Sometimes I'm in the GTi though.

    That's not an .:R32. Red brake calipers + 4 doors + Black Magic =GTI.

    Fail.

Nope, that's a GTI. R32's were not available in the states with 4 doors or in Black. As for the other things you've listed, they can all be purchased. Besides being Black (a color that wasn't offered in NA on the R32) and having 2 too many doors, the front end is all wrong! The outer lower grills on our cars turn down. These clearly turn up as on a GTI. Trust me this isn't the first GTI owner with .:R envy that went to the trouble of installing center exit exhaust.

Ever heard of importing cars? No one would waste that much money swapping everything when you could just get one shipped here. It also had the euro rear end with space for their license plates. Say what you will, I know what I saw and heard.

Especially at MS. I work in Bldg 30, and I see at least one a day. Any and all of the colors too. I think per-capita there are more Rs in Redmond from 9-5 than anywhere in the US.

Ok, I see you are a slow learner new kid.

    Reasons it is a GTI.

    1) It's black. Black was not offered on the R32 in North America.
    2) It's a 4 door. This was NOT an option for the North American market
    3) It has red brake calipers. ALL R32's have blue ones.
    4) The front end is that of a GTI. They simply put Jetta grill inserts in it.

You have provided all the facts needed in the picture. Sorry your memory serves you wrong and that you were fooled by a center mounted exhaust and rear euro bumper amidst the ambient noise of a down town environment a year ago. You took a picture of a GTI. Perhaps you should do some more research Wyatt.

I don't really care but isn't it possible someone imported a 4 door R32 and changed the few cosmetic things that make some of you think it MUST be a GTI? Just like if it was a GTI, it had to have made changes for it to look like the car the poster saw...

What MkV came with red calipers? These reasons people are giving that the car just can't be a R32 are ridiculous. But whatever, like I said, I don't really care but just trying to instill some logic here.
If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.

Clearly you do care so I'll strap myself in for your usual 4 paragraph defensive retort. To answer your question though, the MkV GTI and GLI came with red brake calipers. I suppose that some one could have done all that you suggest (though highly unlikely) but only if they had a world class independent shop to do it for them.

LOL, you guys are like little kids.
It's either a GTI with a bunch of mods or an imported R32 with some grill mods and painted calipers...so what? but I guess I'll say I agree that it is probably a GTI so you can feel better about showing someone what's up on the internet.

not to mention the GTI fog lights that aren't present in the .:R32...though, i did sand my blue brakes down repaint them red (i have a TR .:R32 with black OZ wheels)...but those brakes looks a little small to be .:R32 brakes

it could be an .:R32 (imported), but highly unlikely, since who would import an .:R32 and then start to change it to look a little more like a GTI?

Spotted a DBP R32 in Richmond. Dickens and Broad. Around 2PM. You made a right onto Broad. Aftermarket exhaust, and tinted windows. I wasn't in my R.

Had a CarMax sticker that needs to come off.

The Time: Saturday, 4/28 at around 3:20pm

The Place: Route 9, from just above the Annsville Circle to the Croton-Ossining border.

You: TR R32 traveling Southbound on 9

Me: Mutleymobile (Blue 2011 RAV4) Waiting to turn South onto 9 at the traffic light at Roa Hook Road

I'd never seen a TR MK V R32 in person until today!
I got close to you at the traffic circle, and paced you until the Croton River Bridge when you slowed down and took the right lane to stay on 9. I stayed left and split off up the hill on 9A.

I was on my way to Lash VW to pick up my new Golf R

I just find it hilarious that you are completely oblivious to the fact that maybe somebody shipped a car over here. I saw an R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R that was right hand drive about a month ago but I'm guessing it was fake because it was never offered in North America and it had aftermarket brakes.

It's not impossible I guess. You can only import a vehicle less than 25 years old if it is a model that's DOT and EPA certified here, so a Euro R32 would be. But my thought is that everywhere else in the world, they are way more expensive than here (like 10-30K more depending on country), plus the cost of shipping, registering it then spending some reasonable dollars on converting the front to a different model. Not saying it isn't possible, just far from likely. A VR6 swap would be far cheaper. I know several people that have done them. That could explain the sound.

    Worth a read.

Not sure how the R32 Skyline got here. It's newer than 25 years.

I find it hilarious that your are loosing sleep over this!
You posted a GTI because you simply don't know the difference. Just admit it and move on. You're not the first and certainly not the last person to post a GTI in this thread. Move along now.

Enough with the thread hi-jacking! Back to spotting actual .:R32's!
