Not really an action shot yet, as the season starts in a few weeks... But got the new temporary setup.

17x9, 35et. Currently on 225/45, but after I get the suspension sorted I'll go to something larger

Plus, a little test fit of the votex lip, haha.

Sort of. Too big and it'll tear the mounts out, but a Milano front bar is only slightly bigger and a bolt-in. Hunting for one now.

Ah... I understand. Spitfires have the same problem. The attachment point on the LCA is prone to tearing off even with a stock bar.

Here's a quick shot of my 2012 Golf at the recent DRSCCA autocross. First serious time out for me after a year off from autocrossing (to concentrate on the race car program), and my first event on brand new Hankook R-S3.

Despite driving with a wailing painful old-fart racer sciatic nerve and running in 95 degree ambient temps, I managed second place in a 20-car RTF class ...0.100 sec. off of first in RTF.

Oh, and for those bandwagon riders who continue to moan and groan and carry on like a bunch of petulant children about not being able to switch of the ESC on the current PQ36 platform cars, ...that not being able to do so "reduces performance", know this: At no time during any of my runs (which included one medium speed and one fast slalom, three open sweepers, and two hairpins that demanded a ton-o-trail braking) did ESC engage. If only the complainers would shut up and learn classic, smooth driving techniques instead of disassociating themselves from the performance capabilities of their cars, ....sigh....

Here's a shot from my first autocross a couple of months back.

Despite the supposed inadequacy of the base 2.5 Golf, I did better than a lot of "faster" cars present that day...including a couple of GTIs.

TechEd, I'd love to hear what you recommend as far as suspension setup, wheel & tire dimensions, etc, for the base Golf.

Now that is GRIP! Looks like you almost ended up on 2 wheels

I went and shot the local auto-x this morning. Their regular photographer was on vacation so, seeing as the rack in my Mk2 took a dump on Friday and prevented me from racing today, I stepped in to shoot for their "Pit Patter" newsletter and website. I have about 400 photos to sort through but I should have some nice keepers to post up here.

I slaved around in 110+* heat yesterday to shoot for the clubs newsletter. I didn't get to run due to steering rack failure a few days ago. Had a blast though and saw some sick cars.

Question about the esc, did you leave it on or "off" on the golf? I've had a year under my belt and have it "off" on my GTI, but from your previous posts you were right about the GTI allowing a lot of freedom even though it isn't fully off. The only time I did get the light to flash, I knew I was driving really bad and not smooth, (it was right after the provided lunch and I was full lol).

I've been wondering if I should leave it on and autox with it and and see if i could learn to drive smoother. But I am worried about brake and tire wear as my gti is also my daily.

I'd attest to the ESP being basically staying away during autoX. I've never had it kick in during autocrosses, and I am a considerably more clumsy driver than Jurgen....I've had the car sideway in quick lane changes and plow in tightening radius corner and the car pretty much does not intervene....

Its a different matter though doing trackday..

    Haha!

I'm thinking if getting a Mk5 Rabbit to use for a STF car so it's good to see this platform properly used!

You might want to consider trying for a Mk6 Golf (2010) instead if you can swing it. Supposedly, the suspension was re-tuned to be tauter and the seats are much more bolstered. I think 2010 is probably the one to get, as 2011+ had revised (taller) gear ratios to improve highway fuel economy.
