Porsche is much better at suspension tuning. The X5M, with the active anti-roll bars, ensures that the car can take crazy speed around the bends, but the Porsche does it without that. And where it is really evident is the transfer of weight front to back. The Porsche just isn't impacted anywhere near as much! Power wise it is no comparison, the X5M has so much of it. BUT, I prefer the NA feel of the P car eventhough it is no faster than the 7 series. And finally, the V8 (with sports exhaust especially) on the Porsche is glorious whereas the X5M sounds like a glorified Golf GTI.

That is a fair comment and I have not driven on the track. So if you have one let me know, I'll take it out for a lap or two the next time you are on the track.

A race car with number plates is like a whore with values....you might get some fun out of it, but you know theres more to be had.

This is why I would be happy to buy a used RS at some stage and make it my track biitch for years to come. What I'm after is not outright speed any more as long as it is fast enough, but feel and the sensation of speed. I also don't want electronics and AWD to do everything for me. I'm too old to try to chase lap times, I just want enjoyment. Afterall, I can do 1:19s at Sandown with the GT3, how much faster do I really need to go? Therefore, GT-R just won't work for me.
it's a rare occasion when i agree with wayne - but i do here.
i would be very happy with an rs, either 996 or 997.
gtr wouldn't make me happy even if it was quicker.
it's all about the feel of the car.

Even when I turn off the PSE, it still sounds pretty good, just not as loud and no overrun crackles and pops. As for the X5M Akra, that just make it sound like a M5, which is an improvement, but still no cigar especially inside the car.

Having driven a couple of race cars, I have to say you are 100 thousand percent correct. GT3 Cup car for example makes the RS feel absolutely padestrain. On corners that you have to lift on the RS, you just go flat out on the Cup car. It just allows you to commit so much more! Partly due to the slicks I would imagine. But thinking about towing makes me shiver. Nope, the sensation of a race car isn't enough to entice me to tow!

Btw Nick, did you end up with the Panamera? I really wanted that, but the boot space is a disgrace and will not even fit our pram! With the new baby coming and all, it became a pointless car.

Nope, found two things wrong. The obvious being the looks but also it had this squeal from the rear inside of the tyre every time I booted it. I had a Pana S for a few days and it always did it. Maybe a 4 would change that.
Trying to also fit the Bugaboo was a challenge let alone adding some shopping etc.

Ive got a deposit down for the misses on the new RS4 which should be out in Jan. No great rush as the little man is still only 5 1/2 months.
Got the first allotment as theres only going to be 100 delivered to Oz apparently. Missus always wanted one ever since I hired one to take around the N-Ring several years ago.

    Gents,

What's the boot like on a Carrera? Heading to Germany in July with the lady and tossing up between 6 series or Carrera for 4 days in Germany. Is there room behind the seats to put her crap?

Did the same a couple of years back, pack smart with "carry on aircraft" size bags plus soft bags and you should do well in a Carrera. Remember, there is the back seat/parcel shelf that provides plenty of space too.

Thanks for the advice, was thinking of putting it on the back seat if need be. Only hesitant about the 200km/daily limit. It's going to get expensive real quick i would say!

No Jimmy, it's a great car, friggin pita to get in and out of though hahaha maybe I am just disappointed re kw's, it needs the RS 4.0 engine drive the slightly modded 1M and, of the mark, in a straight line then hop in the CR and you feel, well underwhelmed. I know that's not what the CR is about but that is how I use it

Always looking always sussing out the "next" car. C4S, GT3, new Cayman, TS then maybe save a few bucks and get a TTRS in primer grey (Suzuka grey) hahaha I dunno, it's just fun to look.

john - you really need more power?
    if so, you are corrupted!

you need a 2008 black series clk63. there are a few good ones for sale atm.
$170k thereabouts should secure you one.
love the suzuka grey ttrs, but maybe not enough power for you, unless you mod it

I think you should sell the BM (but not just yet).

I noticed that the 1M they have for sale for $130k in BMW Melbourne has ~4,500 on the clock. That car would have been thrashed within an inch of its life.
