      two recent beers i've had:

the Dogfish Head Sah Tea was really good. little bitter, but really smooth, seemed like a summer beer. maybe?

also had a Sam Adams Revolutionary Rye Ale. my dad picked up a 12 pack, and there were two of these in there. another really good brew from Sam Adams. nice amber color, slightly bitter, but also really smooth. something you could easily drink a whole six pack of.

i really need to start taking pictures of my actual beer pours.

      snowshoe is a great beer
it was one of "gateway" beers into the microbrew world....back in the early 90's. A bar I frequented had microbrew night, cheap bottles. We picked beers by label off a shelf high above the bar. Back then..the bar probably had about 30 different bottled beers.
      Good times.

Some friends and I killed a 5l mini keg of Hopslam Saturday night. I guess I didn't realize it was 10%.
Also tried Bruery Gunga Galunga and it was pretty nasty. Too herbal for my tastes.
And we opened my Barrel aged Autumn Maple which was pretty good.

I bought a hopslam, and while not a bad beer it is overhyped. I would rather have a coronado idiot ipa, a founders double trouble, victory hop wallop, or a Big A.

You know, I agree. It was good but I felt it was over hyped. I'd take a Hop 15, (512) DIPA, Duet, etc... That said, I'd drink it again.

I gotta say..for a DIPA...SN Hoptimum is damn good. Wish I would have gotten a couple more bottles...
Had Double Trouble, Imperial Hatter, Hopslam and Hoptimum in the last week or so...Hoptimum was the fave. I would have no problem drinking any of them though

When I was picking up my empty Angel's Share barrel, the guy at LA said that they were going to back off the Hop 15 production because the Port Mongo was going to be their new every day DIPA.

Mongo's on tap all over town now and while I still see bottles of Hop 15, I kind of get the impression they're going to make it a once a year kind of thing like PtY.

I never got to try Mongo but I've heard good things. Hop 15 was probably one of the first DIPA's I tried so it has some sentimental value there for me.

Mongo is good and only 8.5%. It's more bitter than hoppy though and I wish it were more hoppy than bitter

Need some help from you guys...

Going to Brussels on Saturday and of course hitting the Delirium bar but I need some advice on what bottles to pick up from the beerplanet.eu beershop (here is the link) http://www.beerplanet.eu/

Here is my list so far as you can see I'm trying to get a little of everything...

MIKKELLER 1000 IBU BARREL AGED 17euro
      TEXAS RANGER BARREL AGED 17euro
      De Struise brouwers/mikkeller*ELLIOT BREW
      HOP FLOWER POWER
      Urthel Hop-it
      Blanche de fantome (WIT)
Glazen Toren Jan De Lichte* (WIT)
      Urthel Samaranth*quad
      Abbaye des Rocs Brune
      BUSH DE NUITS
      LA MONEUSE SPECIALE NOEL

    18. 02-23-2011 07:17 PM #2568
I would add more De Struise. Everything I've had from them has been stellar. Black Albert and Black Damnation Mocha Bomb are both outstanding. The Eliot brew you have on the list is good stuff, but may have lost a decent amount of hop flavor. Urthel Hop-it is great, very sneaky ABV%.

I haven't been impressed with any mikkeller stuff. All seems pretty amateur and I've hombrewed better single hop IPAs. Beer nerds seem to hype it up since its American microbrew style beers from Belgium. From what I understand, its all contract brewed, single batches, of this guy just making experiments.

Mikkeller is Danish and used to be two guys one of them left so he is flying somewhat solo I guess....I think he has his own bar in Denmark (too far to go visit easily) But I'm interested to see what his beer tastes like so I'm going to pick a few up. As far as westvleteren 12 I have a rack of it in my basement so I don't need any of that but he is also not selling it...You can't put it in your basket and buy it they give it away if you buy 100 euro's or more in the store...So technically he's in the clear

Thanks for all the help I'll add as much I can till the wife yells.

Just has Firestone Abacus today, this has to be the best Barelywine I have EVER had, hands down ever!
There is a lot of bourbon flavor, but from three years of aging in Heaven Hill barrels I would guess there would be.
There is a lot of dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and leather in the smell and in the taste, its just epic!

This is what I ended up picking up from Brussels this weekend. Drank some really really great things at the Delirium bar last night...All in all one of the best "beer geek" trips I've been on...

Here are the pics let me know if you need me to clarify what one of them is or something...

Hill Farmstead Ephraim (DIPA). Actually, everything I had from Hill Farmstead was outstanding. Some of the best beers I've ever tasted.
