Thread: How to manually close sunroof?

    1. 08-27-2007 04:40 PM #1
My sunroof is stuck fully open, and I can't close it (pinch protection keeps stopping it 3/4 of the way closed). The my previous MK4, I could access a manual crank to close the roof, can I still do that in a MK5? by removing the sunglass holder? How do you remove it?

a dealership could do it for you...and fix it at the same time as well...
but try shutting your sunroof electronically and just kinda try your best to keep the weatherstripping open so the pinch protection doesnt activate...watch yoru fingers though!

Turn the dial to closed, push up on the dial and see if it helps as this resets the roof. Worked for me.

I know it is in the manual, I saw it today when I was looking for something.

If you override pinch protection it's supposed to shut and ignore pinch protection.

There is a way to do it. You have to remove the sunglasses holder and in there is a manual crank you can turn with an allen wrench or something. I think the sunglasses holder just pops out.

Yup, allen wrench should be provided for you in tool kit in trunk.

Thanks - This worked, the sunroof closed to 3/4, and then it hit that 'resistance point', I pushed the sunroof closed while pushing up on the dial and shut the roof - thanks!
I have an appointment at the dealer next Tuesday to look at it (along with my CEL and squeaky seat... yeah VW!!!)
