OH! I almost forgot, the GF's side of the room, she has added an Ikea Galant "shelf" to her desk. It sits on 6" pedestals off of the desk to elevate her 19" LCD, as well has her new MacBook (2.0GHz Penryn/2GB/160GB)

It's not much but I like it

Another update to the above posts.... Here is a quick line up of Apple boxes we have sitting around...

    from left to right:
    GF's iPhone 3G (GTIGirl)
    My iPhone 3G
GF's iBook (for sale! hopefully sold though! Boxed up and ready to go)
    My 8/07 Macbook
    GF's new Macbook

Amazing what they've done with box sizing recently!

Another update... Had the urge last night to add something to the room, so a quick trip to Ikea and Best Buy (birthday gift card) later...

Additional Vika Amon desk (31") w/ matching Vika Curry Silver legs (on the left) now specifically to hold the Macbook + 19" LCD + additional Morker light and for "school" stuff...

On the right desk, I added a Antonius Shelf w/ Capita 6" Legs under it to give me a little more desk space and to hold the new 22" Acer monitor (now running dual 22"s for the desktop).

The bookshelf that was displaced has moved around the room to another wall, but will probably be replaced or added to in the near future... Perhaps that'll be my project for tomorrow

    Crappy iPhone picture:

I went with function over form with my new home workstation. We moved into a new place where we can finally have a dedicated room set up as an office, so I wanted his and her desks. Finding what I wanted was an absolute PITA -- everything was either too rickety, too small, too expensive, the wrong design/material, etc. Until I remembered the folding table top desk I had growing up. My wife loved the idea; she liked how it looked, the fact it was sturdy and had a lot of tabletop and leg room. Two 6' tables set side-by-side was the perfect solution for us.

Ditto on the banquet tables! I've fought wires for as long as I can remember, I've given up the fight! As much as I move stuff around, I'm tired of clipping zip ties and chasing cables. I'm in the middle of converting many hours of VHS over to digital format so I have a lot of extra crap in these pics. I wish I could hide the Macbook, or figure out a way to keep all the wires off the table.

I want to get a wall mounted lcd arm and move the Sony receiver to the floor, making for much more desk space. I'd also like a under desk keyboard tray for the PC keyboard and mouse to get that out of the way since it's rarely used. I use dual inputs on my Syncmaster to handle two computers. My Macbook is usually closed, there is a 640gb WD drive lurking behind it. The small desk on the right is normally used for school stuff, it's playing 'miscellaneous drawer' right now though. Once I mount the monitor, I'm hoping to lose the second desk.

I've accepted the fact that clutter owns my ass.

I liked this idea, so I did a similar add-on last night. Effektiv shelf with 4" Capita legs (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80105362). The extra space is great.

No I did not clean before the picture, I am just a neat freak. The only reason the VHS and 8mm tapes are there is that I am converting the entire family's tapes to DVD. They have been converted to MPEG4, but now I have to edit them.

Gotta say, that actually looks fairly cluttered. Guess we have different definitions of "neat"

desk is a complete mess, and since i'm home from school only the laptop has gotten any use.

what do you guys do for cable management? that's probably my biggest annoyance with my desk set up with the PC

    New setup:

comps: 867mhz ti powerbook, early 2008 penryn macbook, lenovo n100, hp a320n, gray box i built back in ~97 300mhz for win98 (now linux box, soon to be server)

on top of hutch - wd 500gb dvr, wd 1tb movie collection, 500gb backups, logitech soundbar (usb driven, GREAT product imo)

"media center": xbox with xbmc and unleashx, xbox 360, netgear wireless bridge, logitech z640 5.1 (that tv actually has audio out
    )

I gotta pull all the stuff from the cork board but for now it'll do. Wires are as clean as I feel like making them since I'm only inbetween apartments right now and will be moving again. Those papers are my dad's way of filing things for me

You try cramming 4 computers and 3 printer in such limited space! If I have any of my notebooks out is gets so much worse...

So, I was looking through my pictures. Seems I've taken quite a few pictures of my desk/room over the years. So, for the hell of it, I present my desk from approximately 2001 to 2009.

    2001

The computer, not quite pictured, was self-built, Pentium 3 500mhz, a Riva TNT2 graphics card, a 12gb hard drive, Windows 98, 196mb of RAM.

    2003:

The computer, also not quite pictured, was self-built, AMD Athlon 1.7ghz, 1gb of RAM, Geforce 4 Ti4200, a 40gb and a 20 gb hard drive, Windows 2000.

    2005:

Same computer as the 2003 picture, just with a new monitor on the desk... and you can just see its beige top.

    2007:

The computer, which is pictured for a change, was self built, had an AMD Athlon 64 (I think it ran at 2.4 ghz), 2gb of DDRRAM, had a 320gb hard drive and a 120 gb hard drive, Geforce 7800GT, Windows XP Professional.

    2009:

And the present day setup. The desktop, also pictured for a change, has a Core 2 Duo e8400 at 3.0ghz, a Radeon 4850 512mb, 2gb of DDR2 RAM, 2x 500gb hard drives, running Windows XP Professional. The Macbook is the base aluminum one, with a 2.0ghz core 2 duo processor, 2gb DDR3 RAM, 9400m, and an upgraded hard drive at 320gb.

I can't believe I still remember the specs of all my old computers. Well, except for the very first one which I got in 1997, but was already and old hand-me-down for the time.

Edit: For some reason photobucket is making re-sizing these things needlessly difficult. They should all be at 640x480. If they decide to get huge again... apologies.

Anything I want. It's fantastic for basically any task, from writing papers (I'm a full-time student) to running a small business (startup) utilizing predominantly e-commerce channels.

The only things I want to do to it are to replace the WD 36GB Raptor with a SSD from Intel and get another WD 1TB. That and upgrade to 24" monitors. Haha.
