well spotted. i can only imagine what you guys have gone/going through. he sure made one hell of a mess and like an oil spill, it is far from ever being cleaned up.i bought this unit off of one of the guys lucky enough to get his unit at some point early on in the mess but still late enough that he had no real use for it when it arrived so i got it for a song. its a very very solid unit but if i had to go through what some of you guys did, it wouldn't have been worth it...but sure is fun to bench with:
4803MHz / DDR3-1779 SPi 32M = 10m 05.594
click for full size including memset...
i am in the process of potentially hammering out details on a two or three stage cascade but still a little un-sure about whether it is something i want to jump into with a builder a few states away after all the things that happened with Reggie and others in the past.good to see another guy sub-zero on Vortex

The desk...
The MacBook
PC Setup
The PC
Seeing the S4 is away for the winter, I spend my spare time messing around with my PC.EVGA 680i A1
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2x EVGA 8800GT KO in SLI
2gb Mushkin Mem
2x WD Caviar 250gb HD
Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. When I get the wires all straightened out and find my camera I will update the pics.

Thank you! Wire management is one of my biggest things when it comes to building computers!!!! When I find my camera I will take another one with better light so you can see it all.

Holy crap!
Whenever I build my setups, I just grab as many wires as I can in my hand, squish them together, and throw an elastic band around them. That is my wire management.

What PC case is that? I like it's architecture. Nice setup man

Looks like the Lian-Li PC-V1000BPlusSuperComputerCaseFantasticBoxHappyTime or a variation thereof. All kidding aside, Lian-Li is one of the VERY few PC case manufacturers that actually understands how case cooling should be (and it shows in their pricing). Although I think the upper cooling area around the CPU could be better designed to cool front-to-rear.

Yep, thats the one!!!They are a bit expensive but I love the Lian Li cases!!!! They do have GREAT cooling understanding and the CPU environment could be improved, but thats nothing that cant be fixed.
Thanks for the comments guys!

There are some very nice cases for cheaper, but have poor airflow; I'd use one of them if I were going with a water-cooled setup.

I've been trying to find a damn case that actually looks good and will be able to fit everything. I've always liked Lian Li cases, and so far they are the only ones I like.

How about Thermaltake cases? A friend of mine has a "Tsunami Dream Tower"... that is quite possibly the easiest case to work with I've ever come across. Loads of space, not many screws necessary (for PCI cards and drives, mainly), great cooling, durable as hell, and looks pretty nifty too.

desk is a complete mess, and since i'm home from school only the laptop has gotten any use.
what do you guys do for cable management? that's probably my biggest annoyance with my desk set up with the PC
#229
I don't think I've contributed any pictures to this thread yet... here:
And the confuzor itself:
- I think the case is an Antec of some kind. It's quite small.
- Some Asus Micro-ATX nforce4 motherboard
- AMD Athlon 64 4000+
- 2 gigs of ram
- e-vga 7800GT
- Audigy 4
- 1 120gig hard drive, 1 320 gig hard drive
- LG DVD burner
- er... that's all I can think of.

Since I started it, I guess I should give an update:
New additions:
On the left is my once tied to MacBook Westinghouse 19" LCD; now connected to a Everex gPC running Kubuntu 7.10 (in the pic it was still on gOS); middle is the new addition; 22" Envision LCD... No name cheapo from Best Buy (was $149 on Black Friday), but it works great, the extra 3" makes a HUUGE difference IMO... On the right is the trusty MacBook as before

Nothing special, but functional. The door that hides the computer use to have a solid panel and that locked in a lot of hot air. I removed the panel and re-framed the door and screened it to let air in the front, and I also opened the back to let the air flow through.

At work:
2 x Dell Optiplex 745s and a Latitude D610 under the desk.
One 745 is under the desk behind my chair, that's connected to the single monitor in the corner. You can see my other 745, that is attached to the two LCDs in the middle. The D610 is in a docking station on an old-school Dell monitor stand (CPx era) and sitting on the 745, that is connected to the Monitor and keyboard on the far right.
Damn my cubicle is a mess...
