Yeah let's try again. Unfortunately I won't be able to make this weekend because I will be back in Dallas for Easter. Seems to me like these meets used to be on Tuesdays? Does that work better for everyone else? PS waiting on acceptance to the Lub-Dub group. Looking forward to meeting you guys and getting some decent pics of our cars!

Tuesdays would be tough here, I am off Weds though...

Let's definitely get this going again! I'm in the black mk4 with black sawblades. Say hi if any of you ever see me! I'm always in the Tech area and live at 25 Twenty.

Also, I think I have a couple coil packs that have gone bad and need to replace them...anyone know where I can buy them? And how much I should expect to pay? Sorry if my engine terminology is off.

Anyone in the West Texas Area have the tools/ knowhow to replace the timing belt on a 1.8t engine? I will come to you with food for the day and as much beer of your choice as you'd like. Cheers.

Anybody ever replace coil packs on a mk4? I've had misfiring cylinders for quite some time now...the code read a random multiple misfire on 3 and 6. I was going to buy a couple of these
    HTML Code:
    http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_IV--VR6_24v/Search/Coil_Pack/ES518030/
to try and finally resolve the issue.

    Questions:
Could it be that there is only one bad coilpack causing another to misfire, in which I should only buy one of these?

And would anyone be willing to help with the work? We can come up with some sort of compensation, I imagine I don't have the proper tooling or know how.

I have the 24v VR6 by the way.

    Thanks guys

Could possibly be the coilpacks. Does it get worse when its moist or humid outside? Could also be plugs or wires. Simple fixes either way. I would try swapping the coils just to check

No difference in how it runs relative to the humidity. I have a slight engine shake at start up and sitting at idle. There is also a significant lack of low end power, too. Had codes read awhile back, gave me a "random multiple misfire" on cylinders 3 and 6.

What would you suggest I try first? Budget is pretty tight right now and my car sits in the parking garage about 80-90% of the week since I walk to school.

And that engine bay is amazing!

  28. 04-26-2012 05:45 PM #6468
I would swap out the coils for two known good ones, like switch 4 and 5 with 3 and 6. If the misfire is now on 4 and 5 then you know its the coils. If it doesn't its something else, most likely plugs. Wires aren't an issue now that I think about it since 24v are COP.

For those of you not a part of the Lub-Dub group (you should join it if that is the case), we are having a gtg at 8:30 pm this Tuesday on top of the parking garage on Flint and 19th.

I kind of forgot about VwVortex when i let my car fall apart and turn to ****.

But i just messed up. Trying to revive her I didn't think before i acted and put regular coolant into my empty coolant reservoir...now it's constantly overheating! So i gotta flush the system and replace the coolant. Any idea how much that would cost to have done in Lubbock? I'm thinking of just doing it myself with the help of the internets and a Bentley Manual.

Are there any get togethers anymore? I just met a cool aircooler the other night...

Check out the facebook group "lub-dub" http://www.facebook.com/groups/193616127347382/

As for the coolant flush, do it yourself, you will save some money. I just ran about 6 gallons of distilled water through the system, then put in the 50/50 distilled water g12 mixture and haven't had a single problem since! Good luck to ya.

Yep, joined the Lub-Dub. In the process of flushing, sent about 5 gallons through so far. Gonna run through 5 more to make sure all the old stuff is out then fill it with the g12 mix!

yeah...no thanks. Got it drained, flushed, and refilled. Then found a leak in my oil cooler hose. So i gotta go try to pick one up tomorrow, hopefully that will get this project done!

Anyone know where i can dispose of old coolant in LBK?

Now that work has me traveling back out to Lubbock every once in a while I'm going to try to time it for a meet.
