Maybe spraypaint it silver/grey like the engine top?

actually i have a novel solution. coat the outer surfaces with DRAIN-O.. it will eat away the surface of the aluminum and make it look like the engine cover.

or you could also just get it sand blasted. taht works too.
How does a rotary work? This one's easy: the magic triangle spins in the peanut and then apex seals come out.

I'll probably have it coated like the rest of the stuff is, but I'll sandblast it first perhaps. for now its fine. I just want her to be able to drive it. I need to raise it up a little bit. its way too low to drive anywhere other than where we live which has mostly nice roads.

when you repainted your centers did you use a gloss clear or satin?
i remember you said it didn't look good but i was thinking if you use a semi gloss or satin clear it should be ok

its cloth tape. its not sticky but sticks to itself pretty well. its OE mercedes stuff I believe. I just had a friend order it for me. If you want I can go look at the tape itself.

well, I tried both, and both literally ruined the brightness and stuff. they made the gold dull. not sure why. maybe its the paint I used for the base? I ended up fogging the paint color back over the first one I did that had clear on it. was not impressed. we'll see how everything holds up this summer. I may send them off in fall depending on how things go.

pretty hard to get and it cost alot but thats the advantage of the Eastwood paint is that its suppose to be a perfect match for half the price. its hard to tell in the pic but they is really nice metal flake, looks spot on to me

yeah you dont have to get the BBS stuff unless you are a snob. I would probably buy a can if I was having them sprayed with a gun, otherwise....dont care.

well, tackled the oil pan today. welder ran out of gas juuuust at the very end. I'm fairly happy with it. I repaired the seam from the inside once the rest of the pan was reinforced. likely this ads about 1/4 inch to the bottom of the pan. I am going to raise the car up 1/2 an inch and see where it sits.

I wanted it to still be able to dent. I see these pans with 1/4 plate steel and just imagine the transfer of impact to the engine block. *shrug* it'll work.

It honestly wasnt too bad to pull off. a lot easier than say an ABA oil pan. I'll probably be starting from scratch with something new and reinforcing that. working with this one after the fact wasn't a cake walk since its not straight anymore on the bottom. Was disappointed to find you cant even jack on this oil pan.... The extra capacity is nice, but a factory 8v pan has lasted me most of a summer in the past, and doesnt collapse if you jack on it. anyways, this should work fine in the interim.

edit: also noticed the pan impacted the pickup tube. I'm going to have to look at that tomorrow.

Why jack your car up by the pan?

usually jack on the jacking points, get it on a stand, then move to the front of the car, jack it up a little more by the pan itself, and then move the jack stands to the rear of the control arms. Then I let it down. Theres no room to do so from the jacking point behind the wheel with a jack in the way, at least not with my jack and stands, and on the rear of the control arm is the only place I trust with a jack stand. Have been doing this for forever. never had an issue with a factory pan.

      Makes sense.
I guess the OE pan is pretty strong after all.
I wonder if its the design or the type of steel used.
