I'm in the Corrado forums most of the time, and even dabbled in the Scirocco forum for a while when I "discovered" a one-owner '75 Scirocco...here's that thread if you're curious...

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2777428

Well, I missed that '75. And missed my old '78 Rabbit I had so long ago.

And now, I found a another good MK 1 that I can pour some time into. And unlike the Scirocco, it's here to stay. Though I had some hesitation about buying a car sight-unseen from a guy who calls himself "The Hustler"...

It's made friends with my Corrado.

It's a unbelievably solid car. But it needs work...right up my alley.

I'm rebuilding the carb this weekend (the choke's hanging off of it) but it runs pretty good. The door is getting fixed. It's getting painted...yes, Chrome Yellow. The 1.5L automatic stays. I'm keeping it unmolested.

It's been in good hands the last few years. I'm surprised a VR6 hadn't ended up in it already...I guess it was destined for me

    More to come...

That Scirocco had a lot of potential though. I miss that mint interior! My Swallow dash looks like a relief map of the the Grand Canyon.

    Thanks!

One reason I wanted the Rabbit is because it's easy to work on.

I mean, on the Rabbit, I can pull the transmission in 45 minutes. On the Corrado, I have to pull the core support and hang the motor just to pull the trans in 4 hours...

yea the suspension is all of 2 bolts on the top and 2 on the spindle... so a suspension conversion will take 1 hour with all the clean up...lol

Glad you found your early Rabbit. Was that you trying to buy my friends 77 Inari Silver Rabbit in Cali a few weeks back? You found a nice one. I love the color!

There's plenty of pics around from the former owners. I'll only post pics as my stamp gets put on it

I'm stockpiling parts now. Have new chrome trim and a NOS rear bumper on the way...the old bumper had a slight warp and that just won't do...

    A little progress...

New NOS rear bumper on the ground to replace the slight bent and pitted one. The front bumper needs nothing!

I couldn't figure out if this was a '75 hatch or something later, because many of the emblem holes were shaved over. So I did some excavating...

And found the original mounting holes for the '75-only emblems...

The hatch has a little of its soul back! Still searching for the Rabbit emblem...
