This is for the sticker on the fan motor of an 81 S.

Surprisingly, my German wife, nor her folks were able to complete the word
      Anyone?
      Thanks in advance!

I would guess it translates to "approach w/ caution"
      nahen = to approach
stören = to disturb or interfere

It has to do with electronic interference. The fan motor was built so that it doesn't cause it. Same thing for the wiper motors I believe ... otherwise, you turn on the fan when the radio is on and you get noise.

If you were in England, it could also mean that you are asking for a cigarette.

      You would guess wrong though.
On the other hand, I don't read it as "nahentstört" either.

It should read nahentstört, meaning not causing interferences within a small distance.

I guess my only question is why it's "nahenstort" when on the label it starts with "NE---"...

      hi
donno how to explain but if you here something in the radio. like your rpm or something you must "entstören" it
The sign means that its suppressed (thats the word i found ) !!

      Thanks, I'll bet it's Nahentstort.
I thought the second letter was an "e". It was faded, so I wrote over it.

OK! Thanks for the info folks.
      Here is the final result:

I tried a new way of reconditioning the sticker:
I kept the original sticker since most of it was good. I wiped off the worn "nahentstort" with gasoline, leaving a clean canvas.
Then I printed "nahentstort" on Microsoft Word many times, playing with the font 'till I got tired of it.
Then I printed the final result on paper. I covered the word with two layers of Scotch tape, reloaded the paper into the printer the same way, and printed the word onto the tape.
I let the ink dry and covered with a third layer of tape.
Then I peeled off the outer two layers, so that the ink is sandwiched between two layers of tape. The third layer was just to keep the new "sticker" from sticking to the paper.
Trim the "sticker" and apply, taking care to handle it only with a blade. No fingers (fingerprints).
I think it came out pretty nice!
      Work: it works, ibtches.

You may be anal, but I doubt as bad as me!
Here is the entire engine bay, I think worth the effort in details:

      The car is all original.

Many years ago in high school German, "baby" auf Deutsch was Sauegling. Today, the Germans I know just use "baby" whether speaking English or German. Blue is "blau", BTW.
