Thought this was an entertaining, if outlandish read. Was a little difficult to keep up with deeper into the story but I figured this for a 'what if' senario is as good as any other 'what ifs' we've discussed here over the past five years.

What if Chris Leak had gotten that first down against LSU in '04?

    Fun read.

I remember that game because I remember I got insanely drunk that night and wound up being hungover for a day and a half.

    From ESPNU.com

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/...otball-playoff

IMO; there still will be the schools or conferences who will will have issues with the selection process (selected 4 teams). And I really hate that they're leaving it up to a committee to select the teams.
Who will this committee consist of; writers, former coaches, current coaches, commissioners.........who?

Can someone tell me how Dabo is pulling 5 stars and #1 recruits away from schools like Bama and LSU?

Clemson gets great HS players every year and it never ceases to amaze me.

should be the 6 power conference commissioners and 2-3 from the smaller conferences so they get a say as well.

Then again Utah, TCU, and Boise are now all in a power conf so this might be a moot point

a chance at playing instead of competing with the best of the best for playing time

If you are a 5 star recruit at RB and Bama has signed 2 other 5 star RBs - why would you go to Bama? Going to Clemson you will get exposure and more playing time. Both of these will get you give you a better shot at the NFL

Having the selection committee consist of conference commissioners seems like a bad idea. Besides the obvious conflict of interest, I seriously doubt they have time to watch enough football to make an unbiased decision. As long as there is transparency in the process and clear guidelines (emphasis on conference champs, SOS), former coaches seem like the best choice. They know college football better than most and they probably have the time/will to watch a lot of football.

Either way, the BCS (as we know it) is dead! Amen!

I don't see it being bad because we know these commissioners wont vote for an all SEC final 4. Hell it would be tough just to get a second team in

Aren't current commissioners (some of them) as well as current athletic directors on the NCAA March Madness selection committee? I don't see this being a problem as long as there are transparency involved in the process. Just like how the selection committee has to explain why they choose one bubble team over another for the 10th seed, they have to justify their decision on taking an AP #5 team (just an example) in the top 4.

This is finally a step in the right direction. I'm still very leery at this point, of this new playoff system.

I would rather have a 8 team playoff, and have transparency about selection process, but a playoff system is needed progress to a very archaic BCS.

I blame Florida State for losing the first two of the three BCS games they were in. If they had won three in a row like they were probably suppose to, the BCS would've been dissolved long before now.

it will be what brings about the proper 8 school playoff format or possibly 12/16

Long road ahead might take another 10 years but this is the right step

Alabama v Ok St is a game we all would have loved to watch in january

In the short term, that's good thing

The one thing selection committee will have to look at is strength of schedule so if #5 team played a 1-AA team at home and beat up on 2 Sunbelt cream puffs, that serves them right to get left out.

In the longer term, that will just be fuel on the fire for a proper 8 team playoff next time TV contracts are up for renewal.

I would have expected better from a fellow SECer. Saying that you'd rather get to the NFL through Clemson over Alabama due to sitting on the bench and not being a top player... is like saying you'd rather get to a top teir job by graduating at West Virginia over Harvard due to chances at higher GPA.

We all know, the SEC is a NFL Defense factory. High profile coaches are essentially agents for their players. I promise you that having Nick Saban or Les Miles as a reference on your resume trumps having Dabo on there, even if its a 1 year starter vs 2-3 year starter.

So you would rather go split time with other players of your caliber and risk a chance of not playing until your senior year than go to a Clemson and have a legit shot at starting on day 1 and if any good heading to the draft after your 3rd year?

It is a tough choice and for some the ego will almost force them to go and try and beat out the competition. I guess from my stand point is why risk it?

NFL is a nasty business that will chew up and spit out anyone who can't cut it no matter where they went to school. But the trick is getting in and getting that shot.

What I'm saying is that many coaches (like Saban) are known for their players being "NFL ready", that speaks big down here in the SEC. Many, many, many recruits follow the path that they think will get them to the NFL the easiest.

To be fair, Clemson puts a good number of players in the NFL every year. I'm just surprised that he picked Clemson. That's all.

Yay, Isaiah Crowell is taking his drama queening to jail. Arrested for a gun under the seat during a search for marijuana and the gun ID was filed off.

So, in comes year three of a different starting RB for Georgia. Let's see how else Richt and Co can screw Athens out of the easiest road to Atlanta.

    (C) We'll get 'em next year.

This one has been floating around for a few days but in case you missed it...

The above photoshop seems appropriate given the news that broke early this morning. I was not aware that the streets of Athens, Ga had gotten so mean that one would feel the need to be strapped while navigating them. But I guess these are the post-REM break-up times they are living in at UGA…where the team’s running back runs head on into a police road block at 3 in the morning rather than bounce it outside onto a side street or neighborhood. This play calling lapse, as any astute Bulldog fan will remind you, falls squarely on the shoulders of Mike Bobo.

Kind of a long story on Nkemdiche, but I'll keep it as short as possible...

Let me preface this by saying a lot of folks out there think Clemson is one of the dirtiest schools out there when it comes to recruiting. In terms of paying for recruits...there's been several different recruits post pictures of huge wads of cash after visiting Clemson the last few years. Now, I'm not saying other schools don't do this, they do...but there's a lot of dirt piling on at Clemson recently. Not saying they did this to Nkemdiche, just prefacing his story with a precedent.

Nkemdiche plays for Grayson HS in ATL area and has/had a few major college prospects play with him. I live in the ATL area and have followed Grayson pretty well recently. His QB he played with in the 2011 season he also lived with his parents for a short while. Despite not being much of a big school DI-A type of prospect, he got a few mid-major offers and then a Mississippi State offer came rolling in at the last minute (because guess what, he plays with the #1 recruit Nkemdiche for the following year...and Nkemdiche lived with him). He ended up going to Mississippi State and got there early this summer. Ole Miss also offered Nkemdiche's brother, also not much of a prospect, and he chose to go to school there (and still is there).

Nkemdiche plays with 1 pretty good prospect right now this upcoming season, their RB Wayne Gallman. Now, he isn't a Top top player, but still a good RB that would be a decent pickup. Clemson offered him along with many other BCS schools and he chose Clemson. Another prospect coming out this year with them is David Kamara, a DB, who is really not a major college talent, nonetheless, got offers from Ole Miss (shocker!), Mississippi State (Shocker again!) and...wait for it...CLEMSON! He also committed to Clemson within the last month.

Almost out of nowhere (not completely, but it was very shocking), Nkemdiche committed to Clemson after his 2 current teammates were verbals. First off let me say Nkemdiche, while many thought he would head to Bama, was not considering Bama as seriously as some think. Like UGA, Nkemdiche was very concerned about playing in a 3-4 defense which both UGA and Bama run. He's simply not a 3-4 Defensive Lineman...he's a 4-3 strong side DE. When Nkemdiche committed to Clemson, his coach himself (a bama grad) said it came down to Clemson (4-3) and LSU (4-3).

Now, just shortly after he committed, his former QB and whose house he lived at shortly, quit Mississippi State's football team (within weeks of arriving on campus) and is transferring to none other than...you guessed it, Clemson, who has a scholarship waiting. So essentially Clemson is using 3 other scholarships, 2 on players who will never contribute for them as they are not major college prospects, just to land Nkemdiche. Pretty shady stuff. Wouldn't surprise me to see Nkemdiche's brother "quit" at Ole Miss and transfer as well. Lots of smoke behind this, and while it's not signing day or even close to it, I don't know if I see Nkemdiche bailing on Clemson and signing at another school considering half his high school team will end up there with him.

Good explanation. Package deals aren't out of the ordinary down here though so I'll let it pass. Auburn isn't any better.

Reuben Foster just flipped from Bama to Auburn. Pretty good pickup. Top 3 HS player in the nation.

This might end up being Auburn's greatest defensive class ever if they can get Tray Matthews from UGA and Monty Adams and hold them all by NSD. The latter is hardest part.

I'm pretty sure Emmert is going to nuke the Penn State football program tomorrow at 9am.
