Jason, I did not make the last roster, as I never posted my resume. I was reading the AFI on seperationg and SRB's. Which I fall under. Since then I have found an AFI that says I keep what I've been paid, and since I get the bonus in June and the job starts in Jan, Im good to go. Otherwise I would have had to pay that year back. Worse case now my A.D. commander can "force" me to serve an extra year of commitment to the reserves, oh darn!
I did not have a resume in order and had not really been praying about it. Basically, I was unsure of what to do with myself. I have been this time, and really have a peace about it. Plus a few other things, all good I assure you.
I was a bit confused on the resume, and I didn't want to make it seem like I wouldn't put in more hours if I have to, I work minimal 55-60 hrs a week active duty as it is right now! (645am-445pm) I can see you chuckling at me bro
And heard from DD, this is the LAST go around for this posting before it goes bye bye. I will know if they selected me tomorrow, and already have in-serivce recruiter's info to start the paper work process. I really hope they are willing to deal with me via e-mail right now until I get back if I do get it.

If he needs a swap...just find any old diesel. A 1.5D is on the bottom anyway. Hell I have a 1.5D sitting in my garage. It's not like other swaps where you need all the electronics/associated wires. He just needs a motor. Everything else like the exhaust, trans, etc can be reused.
Anyway, they will DEFINITELY work with you over email. Think about it like this...they are not in a hurry to fill this. What they have to do is make it legal and correct. If you make the roster and Dale, Col. Batson, and Chief C sign off on ya...it's just a matter of time. They can push your start back while you work out your separation.

I have found and am sold on a 2007 gti. Plus I can pick it up cash. 50k mi, 6spd, all the interrior goodies/radio controls etc on the wheel and 17" hufs. 100% stock, dealer maintained, oil changed every 5k, new coil packs at 37k (car fax rules ftw) has a nice little hide away hitch too
Suggested timing belt replacement, 75k
07 2.0ts had upgraded d/v, pcv system from earlier oil burning 2.0t. Only drawback is the stupid noise maker pipe, already looking at a delete for that from the A3.. And H20/methanol injection.
Love the mk6, but its too expensive, they have a crazy timing chain setup and idler shafts which I am not so sold on.... Now I have to find someone to take delivery of the vehicle

Got some parts ordered for the GLI today should be here by Friday hopefully. Onto this metallicish noise I'm hearing got it down to either the drive side hub, axle, or the transmission bearing on the driver side. Something along those lines. Really need to buy the manual for this car.

Is this the noise you were trying to trouble shoot for a bit now? The O2Q Trans is very similar to an O2m. I have not heard of any premature diff bearing failures in them and know they can handle a lot of abuse even on heavily modded cars.
Things I may suggest, as I went through a fiasco with trouble shooting popping/ constant rubbing noises in my 24v (o2m 6spd) and it turns out that it was the trans bolt hole in the housing had stripped. Think about it, if the axles are picking up the slack of the rest of the drive train, all kinds of weird noises are going to manifest.
Matt Norf also encountered this issue of stripped bolt hole. The fix for stripped bolt hole is an M.10x1.25 helicol. Napa sells them.
If you discover that the bolt/trans are fine, have you attempted changing the fluid? I would suggest trying that first. Anything 75w90 GL 4. NO HIGHER as gl3 and gl5 are not slippery enough/too slippery for vw's aluminum bronze syncros. And 2.45 quarts. I know these things because I change my trans fluid every 20k..just because I DRIVE my cars Either way, keep us posted.
EDIT: Sam, just read the nosie. I would almost bet its a w/b. Even if you have checked for "play" on a lift/jackstands. Corrado and 24v both made said metallic rubbing noises and turned out it was wheel bearing or combination.

Well I did have a quick question for all you guys. In the MKV forums they have stated that the napa/autozone etc parts have failed quickly. Do you guys suggest purchasing these parts like hubs/axles from these places or save up for oem products? And Nate I know you want coilovers for it to drop it a tiny bit and I should have a set for sale soonish! 400 only on for about 4500 miles!
Sam - I buy a TON of parts and from many distributors. OEM will always be superior but sometimes the aftermarket can provide a suitable sub at a much better price.
For instance...I would buy an advance axle ANY day over an OEM axle. Why...lifetime warranty and a fraction of the price.
If I'm buying a window switch though...better go OEM.
Every part is different. Some things I want to see "Germany" stamped on it. Others...China will do.
If you buy EVERYTHING OEM...you're a fool who loves to piss money away. It's a VW for God's sake...not a Ferrari.

Jason/Sam.. I yas, but no thank you. Car is getting h2o injection to keep the engine running good/clean, and some rubber monster mats. That is it. I am purging stuff and saving $$ for the future. Im actually quite tired of driving low dailys. I just want a car that I can get in and drive anywhere.
Sam, don't sell the suspension unless you are in a stupid financial crunch, or just want to go back to stock. You would be throwing $$ away man. And agreed on the after market parts. Some stuff oem (sensors mostly) all others I just get what I can afford at the time.
Got an e-mail today letting me know that NO BODY made the roster for art job. I know for a fact my resume was submitted to the machinist(welder) job. And my refined resume looks quite good compared to my first one. All the critical info, plus all the stuff in specific from good ol 2a7X1.
Soo, I am awaiting to hear back, and in the mean time going to contact in-service recruiter and see whats going on, and if he can do anything to help.

If you had picked any other part than an axle I would agree but, a well built Chinese axle is like a unicorn. Lifetime warranty is great, but my time replacing the axle again and again is more valuable than the $100 I would save. Also, add in the piece of mind that it won't leave you stranded on a road trip. Too many horror stories with Empi and similar brands.
Other parts I will shop around and weigh cost vs reputation.

R2 the front wheel bearings and put it back together. If its still making the noise then you have bigger issues. If not, then you just saved a ton of $$... FEQ/EMPI/autozone blah blah blah 6 SPD AXLES COMPLETELY SUCK and are a waste of money and time changing them.

Dude I searched axles for the mk5 and read tons of crap reviews. Come on now.
Raxles for the 6spd are 100% worth it, plus they are shorter inside the telescoping part so they can be put on a lowered car. Stock axles on newer low vw=issues. And you'd better not be hinting at air ride, you will have zero sympathy/help from me on busted crap and constant issues/noises.
The 24v front bearings didn't make it to 85k, and my corrado not even to 70k. Driving habits MAY have had something to do with that.

Love my back shop I have one roomate, my TSgt supervisor, and friend. Hes a family man so I don't have to worry about drunken stupidness.

Off base is money, you get like 700 for utilities! Only downfall is during exercises, mopp4 to the apartments is the suxor says the guys who live off base. I wouldn't complain when banking 500+/month though

Well I gotta find somebody to help me swapping the hubs. Hopefully the noise moves with the driver side hub! If so ordering hubs right after! Anybody think they could get it done in with me in one might this week? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
what do you mean swap hubs? You press out the wheel bearing and press a new one in unless you buy a complete spindle/bearing but I assume that would be crazy expensive.
I flipped a cabriolet over the weekend($), have an 83 diesel I'm workin on for an older lady($) and then have the rabbit truck to work on now that I'm getting the title today ($). I have too many money making jobs this week so count me out.
