I'm up for a great season whoever wins the Championship.....(including my least favorite drive Alonso)

But, my goodness, if Hamilton wins the Championship this year, are you guys going to boycott F1 due to some sort of fictitious conspiracy theory with its roots somehow lying squarely on the shoulders of Hobbs, Matchett, Windsor and Varsha?
Can't wait.

I sure hope I don't sound like I'm defending Hamilton. He certainly doesn't seem to need my (or anybody else's) help, for that matter.

Here's to a safe and competitive race in Malaysia.

IMO Hamilton just gets so much praise for everything. If he takes a deuce at the right moment it's reported as the best ever. I don't think anyone can really claim that he is not extremely talented, they're just sick of all the hype all the time.
Huey Lewis certainly laid a fast one down in the second session. What was Button doing up there..in both sessions too???
#45
I agree there is a stupid amount of hype around LH. The brits have always loved to pump up their guys, but they also bring them down. But no one can't say it hasn't been a "Michael Schumacher is god fest" all these years, the Ferrari fans boys didn't seem to mind when the hot thing was in their camp, now thats its Mclaren's turn not so much. Every guy who is really good has their supporters and even more vocal haters. As much as it's annoying that LH is hyped so much, the haters spewing crap all the time is even more annoying.
#46
It's nice to see some other people feel LH is overhyped- it can be exhausting to watch coverage of him sometimes due to how it's all so overdone. I guess with LH (and MS too) we can't really know exactly how good he is due to the machinery differences in F1. But I think it would be a very different story in a spec type series.

I disagree in that LH and MS have shown in other non-F1 series that they can compete and win. MS most recently in The ROC, he didn't win, but hadn't driven competitively in over a year and came in a close second. LH did well in GP2 which is a spec series. The guy can certainly drive and only time will tell if he can sustain this level when he is not in a top car (if that ever happens).
When guys like Nico, Kubica, Heikki, etc. seem to be just as good all we hear about is Lewis. If Heikki can keep pace with Lewis and sometimes beat him that may changes things. Unfortunately we all seem to get most of our F1 news from the British media which obviously will favor a British driver.

I disagree too.. its because LH and MS are so good in anything they drive that they do/did drive for the top teams. Seriously anyone that thinks these two wouldn't shine in a spec series may be delusional![]()

Even though I am a fan of LH and Mclaren, I don't mind the penalty, i love watching a good race and having any of the top guns not in their regular spots make for more entertainment for the viewer. Here's hoping to a thrilling race![]()

Recall his GP2 season, and he didn't exactly shine. He was really quick through the early part of the season and REALLY slow (barely qualifying mid pack some races) throughout the rest of it. He won the GP2 title through consistency, not outright pace.

Kinda interesting to re-read some of the posts in this thread!McLaren set the bar real high with "The season starts in Barcelona". Looks like they might have another mediocre performance (I sure hope so).
Even Hamilton said that he was "shocked" to not be further up the grid after Q3.
Given McLaren's performance sofar, perhaps the "six-tenths man's" leaving is really starting to show itself! Ironically, Renault seems to be upping their pace (and I'm not referring to the "low fuel" quali, either)....

Not quite the performance they would have liked, but a good result. I am guessing the car just didnt work as well in the twisties as they needed. Luck was on their side today. Hopefully they dont have any more exploding rims. That was scary as hell. Looks like they need to find some hp between now and Turkey.

The paper also reports that Hamilton is in talks with Pepsi for an endorsement deal as well. Typically, McLaren Team drivers aren't allowed to sign individual endorsement deals, but due to Hamilton's worldwide popularity, the team is allowing him to do his thing, in hopes of bringing back some of that attention to McLaren's endorsement deals.
CNN International reports that if the deal with Reebok goes through, Hamilton will surpass David Beckham as Britain's highest earning athlete. In January, Hamilton signed a five-year contract with the McLaren Racing team worth an estimated $140 million, and also has deals -- through the team -- to promote Bombardier, which flies him free of charge in its luxury jets, Mobil, Vodafone, Tag Heuer, Boss clothing and Hilton hotels. Hamilton also got a cool $4 million for his autobiography from HarperCollins books. It's estimated that Beckham is earning $32 million a year at the moment.

Hamilton says he can still win in FranceBy Pablo Elizalde Wednesday, June 11th 2008, 15:49 GMT
Briton Lewis Hamilton believes he can still win the French Grand Prix despite the penalty he was given in Canada. The McLaren driver will lose ten grid positions at the Magny-Cours race after crashing into the back of Kimi Raikkonen when he failed to see the red light at the end of the pitlane in time.
Although that means Hamilton will start from at least 11th place in France, he is still confident he can finish on top.
"I feel quite confident that we can still win there. That's my job," Hamilton was quoted as saying by Reuters.
"I've got to have that belief in myself and the team. I still feel we can finish in the top three but it's going to be a real challenge."
Hamilton also dismissed suggestions that the Montreal incident was a career low.
"It was nowhere near one of my lowest points. I don't even particularly feel it was a low point. It was one of those things you just have to come to terms with and move on. In the race I was on top of my game," he said.
The Briton lost the championship lead to BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica in Canada and is now four points behind the Pole.
He added: "I believe it is going to be very difficult to win but I don't plan on it going to the last race. We will push as hard as we can to do the job, it doesn't matter if it is early or the last race. So long as we get it done."
Im starting to believe that he doesnt even believe half the **** he says. He talks more game than anyone, and when he has talked big and bad, he has underperformed. When he shuts up and drives, like we all know he can, he wins....in an overwhelming fashion. Instead of saying "I feel quite confident that we can still win there" just get in the dam car and drive. Dont talk about what you "feel" you can do, just do it dammit.

I'm sure someone asked him. It's not like he's running around town yelling out "I'm going to win!"

This is silly. I don't remember too many people saying Schumi or Kimi were talking trash when they still thought they could win despite a grid penalty. It's not like he's going to come out and say I don't think we have any chance of winning here so I might as well stay home and play GTR2.

So did anyone see the quick on-grid onterview of Hamilton's wife?Very attractive, very stupid. Oh my god, its gonna like rain?

Well said, it just plain hatred, and not really what a racing forum should be about. The anti-Hamilton crowd is starting to make the anti-Schumi crowd looks like girl scouts, and that was a guy who quite a few years of missteps along the way. Personally in all my years of watching F1, I have never risen to the point of hating a driver, I can't really understand how some people can get so involved to let it come to that. There are the fanboys and the "hateboys", and I think the hateboys are getting far worse then the fanboys
The ferrari guys in the stands in Montreal even before the stop light incident were just plain offensive in their language regarding Lewis. This is the first year I took my wife, and I found that embarassing for the sport, makes me think twice about taking my 5 year old next year

Saying "we are gonna win" is different than saying "we start behind, but I believe we can fight for a good points finish". Or saying that they destroyed everyone is different than saying we had a good pace during this race.
Its all about portraying the right attitude. And to be honest I don't think he even apologised to kimi or owned up to that bone-headed move.

If I was top team hiring a driver I would want someone who expressed this kinda confidence.. but i guess every statement can be looked at in a different light.. from pitpass.com . And he apologized to Kimi, really what more can he do... he can't take it back, even Mclaren themselves apologized to Ferrari.
Quote, originally posted by pitpass.com » Following the incident, Hamilton has been handed a ten-place grid penalty for next week's race at Magny Cours, however the Englishman remains confident that a win is not entirely out of the question.
"I feel quite confident that we can still win there. That's my job," he told reporters. "I've got to have that belief in myself and the team. I still feel we can finish in the top three but it's going to be a real challenge."
As for his World Championship hopes, the McLaren driver not only believes it is still within reach but that, unlike 2007, it will not go down to the wire
"I believe it is going to be very difficult to win," he admitted, "but I don't plan on it going to the last race."
One of those who might have other ideas is the Montreal winner, the ever-improving, Robert Kubica. Hamilton insists that he has always been aware of the threat posed by the Pole.
"I think he's been a title contender from race one," he said. He was sitting on P2 at the first race.
"I've always known that he's got great talent and that he was going to be strong as soon as BMW pulled their socks up," he continued. "And they have done that. They've done a great job, they've been very consistent and it is three teams at the front really battling it out.
"I think he is going to be pushing us right to the end but it's not particularly worrying. I still feel that we can come out on top but it's going to be a real challenge."
