I had two f/1.8 and now I have a f/1.4, I enjoy it much too, faster quieter focusing and colors pop more, but the nifty fifty still is the most bang for the buck Canon lens !

Nice shots, but you need to clean your camera/lense. You have dust showing up!

Do you have anymore night shots wide open? Are they prety fast to focus at dark places?

  11. 12-17-2007 09:35 PM #46
    f/1.8 came out looking funky, so here's a 4.8

Its pretty good in low light, I usually use manual focus in the complete dark though:

oh completely! I've never had so much fun or such great results with $100 with any of my other gear. a close second is my multi-coated polarizer, like $110, but it only gets used once in a blue moon.

if you're talking about my shot....it's not oversaturated...that's just his neons! the flash hitting him also brings out the color...

I'm not a huge fan of the focal length on an APS-C camera myself.. but the lens is good none-the-less..

    f/4

    f/4

    f/3.2

    f/6.3

    with the 1.4x TC.. f/1.8

So what's the general thought? Is the 1.4 worth the money over the 1.8? Is it worth the price difference?

I ask because the 50mm is going to be my next lens. I absolutely love the pictures these lenses produce.

honestly the 1.4 is worth the money if u have it and are ready to blow it...
if not i have the 1.8 and LOVE IT.... altho even i say the focal lenth falls short untill about f2.2

these are all shot with the f1.8 on a canon xti...

I like my 50mm. I'm honestly tempted to pick up an 85mm prime to add to my bag as well - pretty much solely for portrait use. This was just screwing around with the 50, but I kind of like the shot anyway.

haha its a sweet little stack... fender's clean channels are a little bright tho, the distortion is nice, tho not to much crunch its great for classic rock dirty sounds like zeppelin and skynard and such..
