why not the 1.8 D? The D is the newest version of the lens. No other Nikon 50mm 1.8 is being sold new right now. Optically it's the exact same lens as the non-D version. As stated above the non-D only doesn't provide that distance information for d-TTL flash usage.

Well I just didn't really care about the distance meter right now and just looking for a cheap new lens to play with.
Non D - $60-70
D Ver - $120
No real reason besides that...

okay.. so ignore the D vs. non-D and just look for a used Nikon 50mm 1.8 out there.

Ya that's my plan, I just didn't realize the D version replaced the older one. Hence why I was still looking on that site for one.
Thanks for the info!

A quick shot with the 50mm that I picked up with the new camera (take it with a grain of salt as I'm still learning)

I just bought this lens based on the opinion of the people in this topic. Where was it all my life!?
I was a bit afraid that it would be a bitch to focus manually (I have a D40) and I was seriously considering selling my camera and buying a D80. But after a test run, it's surprisingly easy to handle! AND it makes fun pictures!
Here's one for today

It sometimes gives misty shots, though. Don't know why, but I think it happens when it's wide open. You can see it in the original of the pic above, too.

I am debating on whether i should just get the F/1.8 or if I should spend the extra $200 and get the 1.4. The "L" is just out of the question.

I wish I'd noticed the menu on the table behind before I took the shot.

The last 2 shots are sweet!
Actually I like the image of the menu in the glass, gives it a really cool depth shot.
