haha, yeah broke out the camera cuz i saw the mileage creeping ever so close and wanted to take a pic. the vortex was on my mind the whole time so then i figured i'd snap a few of the car in winter mode since i hadn't done it yet and it's nearing the end of february. i can't wait to bust summer mode back out. to get some looks and grip back

Well I know you all were talking about moving it to Thursday and no one had said whether it was at Vordermans or not so I didn't know.

  10. 02-24-2008 10:06 PM #220
We're shooting for Thursday the 13th for March's meeting, and the way the weather's going I'd say we're probably better off meeting at IHOP. It's not much fun to hang out at Vordermans unless it's over 65 degrees and not raining...

Mark, Ben and I went to a auction in Markle this weekend hoping to pick up a '82 Rabbit diesel truck. The ad said it was in very nice shape and had been garage kept, but we didn't expect such a nice truck - it was darn near perfect. We only found piddly little things wrong with it that would have taken half a day to fix (small dent in hood, droopy headliner, a couple very small insignificant surface rust spots). The truck had a pile of reciepts, and it started up and ran like it was new. I haven't seen one this nice and original for a long, long time...

Unfortunately, it seems like everybody who came to the auction was also interested in this little jem, and it sold for $5,500! I wouldn't hesitate to say it was probably worth even more than that, but all three of us were suprised that it sold for so much. Ben didn't stop crying until way after lunch

^ that sucks that it went for so much, but i guess its a good thing they are still holding value. Thats motivating for me to find one to restore now since ive wanted one for a while.

I made it back from my 3 weeks of vacations last night!
My latest adventure was driving my junkyard jetta down to Florida (to see if it would make it) for a week to enjoy warm weather. I chose the wrong time to move back here from vegas i guess.

Halfway down to FL i get a call from a friend offering me $650 if i can trailer 2 of his 3 seater jet skis back from tampa. That money would more than pay for my trip, so i had a hitch put on the car and hauled them back with few problems.

Not only did i drive to FL with 2.5 inches of oil pan clearance, I towed the jet skis back the same way. 1,100 miles strong...fun times

    so gangster

Anyone know of any mk3 TDI's for sale in the area?

glad to see that the koni's were low enough for you.good thing thats a 2.slow if it were a vr I doubt you would have cleared the oil pan.

Now THAT'S what I call a shakedown cruise!

The BeatJet decided it wanted to take a little vacation in my garage again - my nephew came over this weekend telling me that it was "leaking a little oil". I discovered pools of oil in the passenger side control arm, all over the axle, and nice oil stain running from the front passenger side of the car all the way to the rear. It seems to be coming from under the timing belt cover, so it looks like I'm replacing the front main and intermediate shaft seals this weekend. Fun fun fun ...

    eh, not really.

my dad worked there for a year or so, good honest person, did everything he had to, and then some. but the managers are morons and the economy is so bad. and when you go almost a week straight without customers coming through the front door, its hard. and hed been treated like bottom of the barrel there. he was more knowledgable about the product than the sales manager and most other people there, too.

overall, its just a crap dealership and run poorly. they have almost no 2008 porsche allocation. almost all their cars go to dealer auctions because they sit on the lot so long.

i could go on forever, anger will do that, but ill spare everyone.

    welcome to the layer cake

why i'll never work for a car dealer...

all dealers are hurting right now (that's what happens when prices get jacked, quality goes down, and people lose jobs). but that is no excuse to treat people poorly.

Try working for the OEM's sometime

Like my old pal Hunter S. Thompson said: "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro"...

Oh yea, tell that roommate of yours that we better get a in-depth review of his new car experience here pretty soon or he's gonna have to go thru KDF hazing again

Woot - page 8 WAS mine...

Ouch. So when do i come pick up Rusty2.0?

Since you are limo bound and all.

I touched base with a couple of guys that live in my neighborhood.

    One drives a 01 GTi VR6, the other drives a 02+ Audi A4 Red.

I emailed one of them the link to this thread. Not sure if they have checked it out yet.

The Rabbit is great, the Audi is pending sale. Ya'll will see the Rabbit soon enough, Im sure. I dont know how long I'll be able to go without an older Audi in my stable, so I may pick something up with the cash I get for selling the 4ktq.

When it warms up a tad and work free's up I'll be at KDF central moar.

dont know if any of you have seen this. it looks ok, but as i posted in the thread, it looks an awful lot like a volvo c30.

I'm seeing that the Scirocco is the new "face" for VW - in other words, the MK VI Golf / Jetta will have something similar, as well as the next Passat. There's a discussion thread over on the Car Lounge about it. I dunno if I'm feeling it myself, like Tyler I'm thinking it's more Volvo than VW.

I haven't heard anything about the Golf Diesel Hybrid for the states either, VWoA is such a mess right now with the move to Virgina and people leaving / getting replaced that it's near total chaos. I do know that we're supposed to get a Jetta TDI this summer sometime for photo / video stuff, and I want to check it out thoroughly...

I just came in from the garage, the BeatJet is back on the road. The intermediate shaft's oil seal was blown out of the block and just kinda dangling there. Since I had to pretty much strip everything off the passenger side of the block to get at it, I did the timing belt / tensioner / serpentine belt / AC belt as well. Also had to replace two of the driver's side inner CV joint bolts as they had snapped off their heads somehow. I'd swear that car just likes to piss me off

Mark - while I was out at Morgan's place Friday night I filled BlueBell's gas tank with sugar and dumped some metal shavings in the oil. I didn't think you'd mind

Jeez, we just crushed my spare MK2 GTI, and it had a good front clip. Mark's Corrado wouldn't have worked either because of the damage to the front end.

However - the front clip on Rusty 1.0 isn't that bad, and we're planning on it's sawsall party here shortly (as soon as it warms up some). I've got too many projects to take this on, but if someone else wants to do this I'd offer up the front clip (minus the grille, bumper and some other bits)...

Or - we could just cut the front end off of BlueBell, Mark's never gonna finish that car anyway

but it wouldn't be that hard to take a clip from an old gti or similar and purchase body panels for a urq and custom build one.

what we SHOULD do, is take the rear of an old pinto and turn that into a grill. oh, the irony!
