i had my head rebuilt at NAPA on coliseum and my exhaust manifolds cleaned and blasted for a very reasonable price. fairly quick turn around too.

or there is a nice machine shop off of Industrial road that mainly does engines and heads. however when i took my vr head there, they weren't sure if they could do it - even though vorderman sends a lot of heads there to be rebuilt. they quoted me kind of high, but it looked like a good place.

im pretty sure they can do the port and polish.

both are engine machine shops.

i don't think any of us have the equipment to do it. all the other motor guys i know take their stuff to shops to get any machining done.

Werners is good for parts and stuff...have a whole bunch of ancient parts...I've seen 'em...way cool, and tons of parts. He rebuilds transmissions and turbo's also...kinda pricey but excellent work from what I have seen, C&P gets most of my machine work, have had 2 heads done there and done well to my eye.The captain just had a 16V head done with all the trimmings....pricey, but looks good

theres also a shop near vorderman auto body that does good work at a fair price. cant remember the name (been gone too long). Ive had friends take heads there 4-5 times for different things. hope that helps

yep, thats C&P. back there in that industrial park.

also, i have black and white OG Rat-Stylz stickers forsale. $5.00 a piece and it goes towards a good friend who has cancer whose insurance dropped her for chemo. each session she goes through is around $1400. oh yeah, she is also a vw enthusiast from syracuse NY now living in california. she drives a red vr mk-tree and a new rabbit. frequents the mk-tree and mk5 forum. im home for break so i can save on postage too.

happy new year bump for the fort wayne crew.

saw a black mk4 vr6 at walmart on coldwater. got a thumbs up from the guy but wasn't able to talk to him. also saw a red mk4 1.8t with a german flag badge and bora on the trunk.

anyone know anything about these guys?

think he said he sold that last time i was in the parts dept (a 1 1/2 months ago) after he told me a new mk3 cluster would be $592.08

Hi, I'm Brian and I'm one of the old farts in the Strictly German / Old Fort VW Club / KDF Gruppe. I turn 42 this month, and I've been driving and working on VW's since I was 10. There hasn't been a time in my life where I haven't had a least one watercooled VW in my garage.

Here's what I've currently got in the "fleet":

1986 GTI - nicknamed "the buzbomb" - I've owned this car since '91 and driven it pretty much daily. It's currently my winter / bad weather ride, and although it may not look like much there's a lot of tweaks and mods under the faded red paint. It's gonna get retired soon as it's got rust in all the wrong places. I've also got two other MK2 GTI shells / parts cars that were going to be used to resurrect this old friend of mine, but plans sorta changed this fall... (blu98gtivr6, I think you "found" me on Lima Road about a month back while I was driving back from lunch in this car).

2000 Jetta VR6 - I bought this one new from Vordermans in July of 2000, got to drive it about 4 times then my wife took it over. Needless to say I don't get much wheel time in it, but that's no biggie, I got plenty of other stuff to putter around in. Sooner or later she'll total it and I'll use the parts for a MK2 VR swap

1989 Rabbit Cabriolet - bought this one for my birthday in 2001, and it's currently the "nice summer car" of the fleet. The summer after I picked this one up, it decided it had found a "sucker" and immediately started shedding all of it's maintanence parts, and I've spent most of the past 3 years putting time / effort / parts / $$$ / skin / blood into it - and it's finally paying off. Recaros, Momo, Bilstein / H&R, TT, etc...

1983 Rabbit GTI - affectionately known as Rusty. Bought this one in September for $300 from a local guy The Captain and I have been trying to track down for a couple years, he finally retired and didn't wanna deal with it anymore so I snagged it up. Put a bunch of work / time into it, got to drive it for 3 days until the rear passenger side axle mounting point rusted thru the subframe

1984 Rabbit GTI - "Rusty 2.0", exact same car as original Rusty only this one ain't got the subframe rot. Just picked it up in Grand Rapids three weeks ago, many good parts from Rusty have already made the transition. Gonna hopefully have plates on it this week, and it'll make it's maiden appearance this Saturday at "the clubhouse". This car will either get a 2.0 ABA bottom end / JH head swap or the 2.0 16v that's sitting around the garage will get tossed in.

1994 Jetta - "The BeatJet". When we rescued this thing from one of our super-secret junkyards, it had a bad auto tranny and at least one dent in every body panel. Swapped out the bad auto for a supposed working auto that promptly died. Tyler, Mike and I did the 5-speed swap in this car in a weekend, and now my brother-in-law is driving it as his first dub

2004 Ford F150 - the "Touareg Pickup Prototype". It's the only white F150 in town with a VW plate on the front. That story can wait until the GTG to tell. I use this beast to haul around the parts cars and to make trips to the fabled "super-secret junkyards" (and many of the current club members have taken that blindfolded ride in the bed in January, believe me)...

I've got a garage / basement full of parts, a bunch more over at the clubhouse, and I'm an incurable junkyard scrounger. I eat, live, breath and sleep VW. Fortunately, I even get to work with VW, as well as Audi, Maserati, and Ferrari.

I'm all for meeting at the IHOP on the 9th of January - I'll have plates on Rusty 2.0 and it's been too long since we've all gathered together. The IHOP meetings were cool, it's nice not to get eaten by mosquitoes while we're talking

Alright, enough for now - next time I'll fill ya'll in on our biggest asset, "The Captain" and his wonderful "clubhouse"...

and brian, if im around this summer, it may be time to do some fender rolling, frame notching, and oil pan prototyping.

as well as self-alignments. apparently waiting until november after installing coils in mid-summer is a bad idea.

o'daniels will be getting a sold rs4 tomorrow for anyone wanting to check it out.

ill let my dad know about the gtg the 9th, he should have his new a4 avant then and might be able to stop by. at 58 years old, he has already checked out APRs site and been asking me questions.....

It's not much more involved than doing a clutch replacement. The biggest headache was getting the auto tranny out of the car - it's a lot bigger than the 5-speed, and we didn't want to drop the subframe (which would have made it easier). You'll need everything from the 5-speed donor car (axles, mounts, shift linkage, pedal cluster, coolant lines, etc).

The BeatJet was trashed when I got it, 175k miles and the last owner tried to kill the car. When I ran a carfax on it, I discovered that I was the third owner, the first owner took good care of the car up until 150k. It cleaned up real nice, and with the 17" alloys and no suspension drop it made for a nice "donk" style vehicle. So far, it's the only project car I've had that my wife didn't want me to sell!

Alex - your axles will do all the frame notching you'll need, just let them keep rubbing. I think you ought to also start studying how to design a oil pan made from rubber, that may be the solution to your railroad track issues...

Say, one of you didn't happen to buy that red MK1 GTI shell that was over at Evolution Motorsports, didya? I was going to pick it up but Rusty 2.0 came along, and I decided that buying a complete running car was better than buying a shell. Just curious - it was one of the cleaner Rabbit shells I'd seen in a long time in this area...

Yeah i bought the rabbit.im putting the 1.8 back in for now.i have big plans for it in the future and im going down to evolution to discuss the swap today.i think its going to get a heart transplant.the donor is going to be an Audi 5k(5cyl 20v turbo quattro )but i might not. if u "geezers" think u might be up to the swap i.e this mysterious club house. i might go out there and talk gravy with u guys then.anywho cant wait to see u all on the 9th until then enjoy this beautiful Indiana winter .
