i like to see interest. buzbomb and i sort of share the job of organizing the gtg's and stuff since we share the email account for the group.
#74
nope.my dad is semi retired, so he is a Porsche/Audi salesman down at O'daniel.
hes already checked out APRs website and asked me some questions about chips and intakes. he had a diverter valve in his old 1.8t avant.
![]()
so he might step up and get a diverter valve AND intake this time! i want him to lower it and get a chip/exhaust, but that'll take more convincing.
welcome to the layer cake

a height like this would be decent:

Heh, I say you just, ahem, "borrow" it for an afternoon and we just slap the coilovers on it out at the clubhouse. It only took a couple hours to put yours on. Leave them at pretty much stock height, and ever week we lower it a couple mm's or so until it's slammed...

Arrggg, too much to type - come out to the meet Wednesday and we'll discuss it.Short answer:
Could we do it? Sure (with the exception of shortening the drive shafts / axle shafts). There's so much fab work involved that it's making my head spin.
Would it take a LOT more time than you'd wanna spend? Sure. Probably more. Ask mbyler or bigger daddy how long their "simple" projects are taking to finish
![]()
Is "the clubhouse" a shop that does custom work? No. We're a group of VW fans that help each other out with our various projects - we just happen to be far better equipped than the adverage "club", with some seriously skilled folks to help out.
A Fox shell would probably work much better with this kind of swap, as it's already set up for a front-to-back motor arrangement with the trans at the rear of the block. With the Rabbit shell, I don't think you've got enough room to stuff the motor / trans in there without the front of the motor sticking way out past the bumper - or moving the front wheel wells somewhere around the front 1/3 of the door. And I happen to know where you could get a nice little Fox wagon for cheap locally that'd be perfect...
After doing the clutch job on Mike's 4000S with the same motor/trans that you're talking about, just the thought of this swap makes my 'nads crawl into a deep, dark place around my spleen. I don't mean to be a jerk, but there's quite a few other swaps you could do with that car that a) would be just as much fun; b) wouldn't take nearly as much time / money / hassle; and c) wouldn't mean cutting up a perfectly good GTI shell. And yes, I've read the "what motor to swap into my Rabbit" thread...
Anyway, come to the meet - let's discuss some options...

thank you west lafayette police for wasting 30 minutes of my busy night, last night.apparently when you change lanes, you need to signal for a FULL 200 FEET before changing lanes, not let your signal flash 2-3 times then change lanes. odd how car manufacturers are putting that option of 2-3 flashes on the turn stalk for the lane changing purpose.
then hassled me about my exhaust - even though its a 50 state legal magnaflow system. then for some reason my vin checked out as a red car....ok, quit wasting my time....
but, this made it worth it....just a written warning and when the cop pulled away, his cruiser started pissing coolant and billowing steam. i smiled, waved, and drove away.
you could tell there was an officer in training too. short pig just walked up to my car all nervous and awkward like.

Great meeting last night - about twice as many people showed up as I had expected! It's always good to see the usual croud, but all the first-timers that showed really impressed me. As I said last night, if the new folks want to IM me their address, I'll add you to the club email list (although I think we'll use this thread as a meeting notice point from now on too). Our next meeting at IHOP will be Wednesday, Febuary 6th, so mark your calendars!
Also - whoever was asking me about 7" round headlights, send me a IM with your email address and I'll take some quick pics of what I've got.

Brian, the dudes with the Jetta coupe #1 single rounds I believe inquired about the 7". Ditto on the excellent meeting. I haven't been in a while and enjoyed meeting everyone who was new. Had to bring my coupe just to show off...I wanna see #1 though![]()

Did you sell this car already? A buddy of mine (another Sturgis native) just sent me a email describing this same coupe...Mark - post up some pics of the past two weekend's carnage!
Edit - Pedro, I'm jealous - I've been trying to come up with a way to get that GLI away from Dennis ever since I saw it this fall. If you come to the next meeting you better bring that car!

Hey everyone! This is Alex, Pedro's bro. Great meet by the way! Very excited to meet you guys. Hope to make it on the 6th.Here's a pic of the Jetta I took in the summer.

that's right guys, the coupe is no longer mine........here's a sneak peek of the GLI

^ i want that
#99
Wait until you see this GLI in person - it's one of the nicest I've seen in a long time. The previous owner put a lot of work into making sure it was correct and original, and it shows.I'm just glad to see it went to a good home!
I need to get the pics from the weekend's carnage from Byler - we stripped out one of my A2 GTI parts cars. It had rust in all the wrong places, but had a ton of good usable parts. Of course, now I've got so much stuff in my garage that I can barely get around anymore

thought i'd share this with all of you.....got pulled over on the third day of owning the car for having a "loud exhaust"![]()

YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS!!!!Tim (it is Tim, right? blu98gtivr6?) kept saying at IHop, that he started this. I thought he meant "Strictly German" and kept wondering why the hell I'd never seen him.... he meant the thread. I agree w/ Brain, that this is a great place to disseminate the GTG info from here on out, at least in addition to the email reminder, but Vortex certainly is a good way for the lone wolves out there to track us down.
Nostalgia anyone? Here's some pix from the parade in 06. I miss the Red Rocket a little... at least the Momo wheel and the steelies. However the new TDI pulls like a freaking tractor in Avilla

I think I just killed a server with those. If you have dial-up... sorry bout yur luck

You know that cop just wanted to check out your fine ride![]()
Speaking of loud exhausts, I had to move Rusty 1 out of the garage to get the passenger side door off Friday night. I drove it around the block with no hood / doors / interior / dash / exhaust just for the heck of it - man was that thing LOUD. It was a blast!
Wes - you may miss the red rocket, but I really miss that blue R32. I should have sold a kidney and kept that car... Glad to see you join us here.
I've really got to get in the habit of hosting some of my pics...

short shifter, lowered, and exhaust made that car a blast.
