I have been a 2.slo jetta driver for several yrs now but recently came across a VR Golf and now im hooked. wasnt runnin, needed work, TLC whatever you wanna call it. Finally got it runnin but long story short seems I blew the headgasket. Soooo I decided to pull the motor and do a lil R&R. Figured I'd also do the chains and the clutch. Figured Id let you in on this wild and wacky journey. Enjoy

Took a break and left the east and took a nice vacay in the west! Cali has def shown a dog some love! Saw this off on of the highways and went to the shop and the owner let me go to the back and get a closer shot! California Love!

in the pic of the tranny, you are missing something. the throwout bearing with the bracket and spring. also why do you have a distributor motor???

How did your upper chain tensioner, and lower guide/tensioner look when you pulled the timing chain cover off? At how many miles on the engine?

The kit that was put on was pnw, but didnt want to take any chances do I put in brand new kit anyways, there was no wear on the guides. They looked really good! Now I am selling them b/c I dont need them. Supposedly the mileage is 115k.

Having the engine out made it so easy, dont think I can do it w/ it in the car! lol Guides was nothing really, you can def get to it cuz you have to pull the trans.

those first few pics made me happy that i have access to a garage, an engine lift, and all the proper tools i need and that what i am doing now is way easier then what others have done. thats hardcore to just do it with no hoist and still got it all properly finished. props!
