    Thread: VW Malfunction Indicator Light

    1. 02-10-2008 09:19 PM #1
The Malfunction Indicator Light on my 03 VW Passat 1.8T just came on last night. After doing some research online I noticed that there seems to be some issues with the coil packs on the 1.8's. Does anyone know of any other issues that this light is linked to?? And is the coil packs still very hard to get??? Any and all info would be great.

      Thanks

the light is linked to the ecm which overlooks alot of things....you will need to get a scan to see what the codes are before we can give you a direction, unless its running like a subaru then it could be a coilpack.

Is the car acting acting funny?
Any hints that anything is wrong other than the MIL?
Like stated above, the MIL could be triggered by just about any irregularity in the car.

It seems to have some loss of power, not to much though.

if you feel a shuddering under higher RPMs then it could also be coilpacks

do you have a downpipe and/or high flow cat? cause my 1.8T has a fit once and a while and decides to throw a code cause it decides it doesnt like my cat all of a sudden. i dont feel any difference in driveability, but the light just comes on... and i promptly kill it with my scanner
