i forgot who it was on here that was studying to be a police officer, but im going to pose a situation:

i was leaving rowling meadows courthouse today (no offense, just getting some paperwork), and as i was leaving, a late model crown vic pulled up behind me...

the car was all black, chrome trim, had the marauder style wheels, no tint, standard civilian plates, and a regular joe driving it.

I pulled out on to Euclid, and he flew behind me and cruised next to me for about 10 seconds before rolling his window down, and we slowed to a stop... at which point he started yelling at me about how he could have pulled me over for speeding and a loud exhaust (exhaust isn't terribly loud, and i was speeding, but only 4 over)... i did notice while he was yelling at me, that he was dressed in a Sheriff's uniform...

now im not concerned about my breaking the law... i do have aftermarket exhaust (which i know if a police officer wants to be a dick he can write a ticket), and i was speeding (if only 4 over, its still speeding)... but what i am confused about is:

can a very obviously unmarked car, with no light bars, civilian plates, etc... actually be an on duty officer and write a ticket, or would it more likely be his personal vehicle and he was just on his way home and in a bad mood?

He probably was in a "real" police car and could technically pull you over but he was probably being a dick. If he was at the courthouse in an unmarked car that most likely means he is there on his day off for a court hearing on a case that he is involved in. Most likely he was in a bad mood for having to be there.

Also, he probably had lights but they were just hidden or had one he could throw on top of his car when needed. Most cops don't want to look like cops when they are off duty so most likely they wouldn't be driving a crown vic as a personal car.
