Awesome, so you were the one who bought the car. I remember in the end of the article, that the car needed an extra 50 hp to be competitive in Pike's Peak. I guess you surpass that and then some.

EDIT. All of the pics are currently offline. Just in the process of setting up a Flickr account, and moving them all to it. They should be live again this week.
Scott.
So this post is long overdue. This round of the project started last summer. But the car itself, started as a project a long time ago. For those of you who were around back in the day, you're probably fimiliar with my car. It used to be Ron's car (prior to RPI existing), and was featured in the Jan/96 issues of European Car. That story was also reprinted in the fall 97 issue of VW Power. Back then it was 'just' a VR syncro GTI however.
The car lasted like that for a few years, and about 5 years ago it had a low boost turbo setup installed. I have only owned the car for about 4 years, and in that time i've done a few changes to it. new- wheels, suspension, brakes, taillights, seats, a roll cage, and a few other changes.
Although i've been super happy, there have been a few things that i wanted to improve wit h the car. I wanted better handling, i wanted more power, better braking, and just an overall better driving experience. So this past summer we tore my car down, and started probably the biggest build i'll ever be part of.So in mid-summer, i dropped my car off at MMP, we had a master plan, and we started to tear the car down. A few hours later, my motor was out, and there was no turning back.
/end post 1.

how far are you in the build since you started last summer?
#11
Whoa, I remember reading about that car in those mags! Good to see its still alive and well. Wonder what is up with the doppelganger..
So I see it is not a "rallye golf" anymore....lol jk

I always wanted to see a good syncro build.. Should be pretty insane with the GT35R in there..Cheers

Its about time you post some progress pics.Man I was in heaven when I drove this back in the day when Ron originally built it. It was a pretty exotic piece of machinery back then :rockin:
1997 sequoia GTI VR6 turbo. 12.1@124, (best mph)12.2@126mph. I need some slicks
1997 Ginster GTI (the new daily)
1992 GTI VR6T. Still not done
1993 corrado VR6. future daily
1994 caged Golf VR6. Daily driver. 14.7@95mph(sold)

it was H&R springs, with Bilstein shocks.
with the low boost setup, i was making 225 to 4 wheels, so about 300 crank.
that was with a t04e at 7psi.
i had been running passat g60 brakes with hawk pads originally, but then a MMP Wilwood setup.

I always loved this car. It was quite an inspiration to me in the late 90's when I did my first VR swap. Keep us updated on the build![]()
