Agreed, glad to see this car is still around!
Does it still use the "homemade" VR6-syncro bellhousing?
So this post is long overdue. This round of the project started last summer. But the car itself, started as a project a long time ago. For those of you who were around back in the day, you're probably fimiliar with my car. It used to be Ron's car (prior to RPI existing), and was featured in the Jan/96 issues of European Car. That story was also reprinted in the fall 97 issue of VW Power. Back then it was 'just' a VR syncro GTI however.

Nice car, funny, thats my Red G60 GTI on the cover of the VW POWER mag!

and now for post number 2.
Since the motor was out, it was time to power wash the engine bay.

The engine bay came out pretty good, however there were two problems that were found.
the first problem. when the frame rail was originally notched. it wasnt welded back together properly, so we'd have to fix that.

the second problem was some rust on the battery tray (not a big deal really).

The next step, was taking care of the front suspension, stiffening it up, and rebuilding it.
The first step of this, was welding the entire sub-frame. All edges on the sub-frame were welded solid.

Then once the sub-frame was done, it was time to move on to the control arms.

Once they were welded up. All of the bushings were then replaced. In the past i had been running urethane bushings, and i thought they sucked. This time i installed R32/TT bushings, and they made a HUGE difference. We also then painted the control arms and sub-frame.

We also replaced all the bushings for the steering rack, and basically everything that is a wear item was upgrade or replaced.

Awesome work with the subframe, I'm tuned in, this looks like it has some serious potential.

Looks awesome. I envy the fact that your car is synchro. haha.
I'm surprised that the seam-welding your control arms is stupid and dangerous clan hasn't busted in here. haha. oh wait, i think they only hang out in the mk3 forum.

i remember that issue of vw power.. i read it a million times over. I always wonder about old feature cars from magazines and where they end up..
that issue had some big names in it at the time- ron, les, and what was the name of the guy who built the rabbit, wasn't it scott boutros or something like that?
anyway, glad to see that car still exists and is in good hands, i remember being amazed when i saw it.. the article made it sound like "-well, ron was moping around the shop all bored, and built an a2 vr6 syncro while he was waiting for his kraft dinner to cook-"

You are correct of the name of the owner of the Blue G60 rabbit, what was never told in the write up of that car, it to was built at eurotech racing, Scott was one of my tech's at the time.
We supplied he with the shell and all of the parts, I also spent many a night and Sunday finishing this Rabbit.
The Red G60 GTI was sold to a person in the Bahama's, guys name is Jeremy Caferty? I have no clue what happened to it after that point.
The Red GTI is one of the car's I truely wish I would have never sold.
Les
