Thread: Anywhere to get dress shirts with long arms? or do I have to get tailored?

    1. 02-27-2008 02:00 PM #1
Basically my story is I'm 170 pounds medium build and have really long arms. What this does to me is that if I'm just buying a dress shirt for lets say work from a store, I always ahve to get a size L just to fit my arms, however then I look really bad cause my shirts wide enough to go around something 3x my size.

Are their any stores/online shops that sell dress shirts for people in this type of situation? I really want a better fit, however I have yet to get one because my arms are long.

Or am I going to have to get a shirt tailored to me? In which case how much do tailored dress shirts cost?

      Thanks

Try Rochester Big and Tall or any place that sells shirts sized by neck x sleeve (Lands' End, Jos Banks, Brooks Brothers).

When you buy shirts that are S, M, L, XL et al - you get a product designed to fit a range of people. When you do neck and sleeve size at least it has two dimensions in your size.

I get almost all of my dress from land's end for that very reason. I have a 16" neck, 44" chest, and 36" sleeve length is too short for me, so even Joseph Bank's don't fit too well. It sucks having gorilla arms.

You should be able to find a tailor in your area to make you a custom/bespoke dress shirt for about $150....Maybe a little less and I'm sure there are cheaper places online, although I've never tried online.

You say you buy size L? DRESS shirts are measured in neck size and arm size.....You definitely need to at least go to a Nordstrom/Bloomingdales or some men's wear store so you can get your measurements. If it turns out you need a 36" arm, then you can definitely find a shirt in store to fit you but who knows unless you post your measurements.

I have the same problem Most annoying thing ever.

If they're nice enough shirts for your purpose, Gap.com has Tall sizes that work. Their M Tall is still a little big for me, though... I need, like... Medium/Small Extra Tall, or some weird crap.

If your looking for a decent priced shirt w/ custom sizing. JC Penny's, they average about $30-$50 a shirt and they are decent quality.

I need a 38neck, 39sleeve and they sell them in the big/tall area.

    7. 02-28-2008 12:59 PM #7
That's exactly what I need, semi-casual. Would you be up for meeting at the border and driving me to New York? What exactly was the price on them? I have been really wanting to drive down to New York now that I live in Toronto since I'm even closer to yeah (only about 750ish km away).

Also I will be going to the gap tonight at square one.

We don't have a JC Penny in Canada, not that it really bugs me.

Also I don't know my measurements, I did have some suits tailored to me however never got the measurements written down. I'll see if I have a tape measure at my place heh.

Thanks for the help again, keep the advice coming, I'll be checking out places tonight at the mall, then again I might as well get measured today while I'm out.

P.S - Henman you'd have to let me drive your R32 back to New York once you pick me up at the border I'll let you have an experience of a life time driving a rare Automatic GTI

Most important thing is to get measured first. From there see if stores carrying your sizes. I'm a 17 size neck with 37 inch arms. Some stores carrying my size others do not. Casual shirtsstores sometimes carrying a T (Tall) size which has longer sleeves.

Once you know your measurements, you can go to http://www.jcpennys.com and buy them online with your measurements.

Depending on the length some brands seem to have much larger/longer sleeves. Although your not supposed to try on some dress shirts from a handful of brands and see if you find something that fits better.

Most places have some selection of longer arm shirts. Nordstrom's has 36 & 37 length in 17".

Here's an online custom place that someone posted here before. Haven't used them yet, but the prices aren't too bad...

Just to add Nordstrom's usually has a tailor in house and they have good rates.

      I'm in your same boat.

H&M Dress Shirts have excellent arm length.

I usually go for H&M Large or Express Mens Medium (1mx stretch, The premium shirts dont stretch so avoid them)

Charles Tyrwhitt as well. They have great quality and sizing and a reasonable price.

Zara also has long arms - but I do not fit into a large fitted dress shirt. The sides are too narrow.

Mens Wearhouse also carries dress shirts in 17 neck 37 arm, as I just bought a new suit and two dress shirts in that exact size from them a week ago.

as people have said, size large doesnt cut it. you want something with a fit neck and fit arm length. being as your skinny, id recommned modern or slim cut shirts so they fit you a bit better.

I'm in the same boat, I was sized as a 16.5 36/37 but my torso is so skinny I'm more like a 16.5 neck, 16 body, and 36/37 sleeve it's a pita and I have yet to get a single shirt that fits me right. I need to just man up and get some custom tailored shirts but where I live (newport beach) that means I will be paying a ridiculous premium (like 3-400 per)

it sounds like I should check out an h&m to see if theirs are any better

      Hello,

Better go for tailored shirt, it wont cost you much, and will look better on you in comparison to ready made shirts.

h&m might not get you as professional of a shirt as youd like. jc penny or even kohls has a fitted shirt selection you should check out first.

I bought Lands End Oxfords for years. Quality shirts, wear very well, and you can order them in neck / arm sizes.

There are numbers of sites that have all about fashion and clothing. If you looking for shirts with long arms then you should visit some web portals because they can offer you lots of information regarding cloth’s quality, design and price.

38 neck? Can you please post a picture of yourself?

      I know, it's 18/39.

16 1/2 / 36 here. I have to look around to find 36/37 sleeves. As posted Jos. A. Bank is good.
