Sorry if this is a noob post, but I'm at school and don't have time to search. For some reason, my windshield wipers dont work against the windshield. The motor spins when they are taken off, but not when they are on. It's like it has too little power. Does this mean it's bad and i need to replace it? Or is there another way to fix this problem? Let me know.

      Tools needed:

      10mm ring/flat spanner

First remove the plastic drip tray. Next, loosen and remove the centre nut holding the wiper arm. Then pop it off the motor using the spanner.

Next, remove the 3 bolts holding the motor to the support bracket and remove the motor towards the driver's side. Note this is for right hand drive, so LHD cars, remove towards passenger side.

Unclip the wire connector on the motor, throw old motor far away, put connector onto new motor, place new motor in position, tighten bolts up and check wipers.

      Time taken: 10 minutes.

      Quick and easy.

      '89 Mk2 Jetta. 8 valve - check. Boost - check.
      '96 Mk3 Golf VR6, some stuff done.

Eh, i knew how to take it apart. I figured out today that the gear on the shaft of the motor is stripped. is there a way to replace that without replacing the motor? Or do i have to pack out $90 for a new motor?

do you hear the motor working still? check under the bonnet and check if the linkage moves, might be the splines on the arms are stripped, or you have fitted late spec arms to an early spec car (the splines changed size somewhere around 89)

buy a compete unit from a scrap yard, then you KNOW you'll have everything required to fix it.
