Thread: DTC 16724 p0340 INTERMITTENT code

  1. 03-03-2008 07:15 PM #1
Hello all, I keep getting DTC 16724, p0340 CPS sensor Intermittent. I've changed the g40 (CPS) sensor with an oe one, code went away for 2-3 days, now back. Was wondering what path of diagnosing I should pursue? I will also mention that the front o2 was replaced 4-5 months ago.

    The vehicle is 2001 Jetta V6 12v.

    Much help is appreciated.

The Bentley manual should contain testing procedures for the voltage of the wiring to the sensor as well as the resistance between various pins inside the sensor. Also, don't you have two sensors, G40 and G163? Which did you replace?

    Are you kidding?

If you don't know how to check the wiring with an Ohm meter for continuity you should pickup a basic electronics book from radio shack and read a little.
Its only three wires, power, ground, and pulse.

Why don't you verify if you have FOD Foreign Object damage.
Check the harness under the cal to the ecu for rodent damage etc.
Tone out the wires and possibly run a piggy back.
Verify measuring block values of the sensor with Vag-Com using the RB manual to test. Follow the test procedure of the RB for the cam sensor etc.
Follow the rules post a complete auto-scan.

    Best,
    Jack

I was recently getting p0340 due to my cam timing being 1 tooth off. (happened when rebuilding head)

I've also seen a few postings where the same code was present due to the timing being off 1 tooth.

    I'd check your timing . . .

Get a Bentley manual or at worst snag a manual from your local parts store. Either will get you through it.

    good luck!
