i'm out of town, and my g/f is taking care of my dog, she just called and said that my dog yawned and a tooth fell out, like a rear tooth. no blood on the tooth or anything, dog didn't even notice, no pain. is that normal? the dog is a chihuahua and is 4 years old. thanks

Not much of an expert here, but my mother has had chihuahua s and every single one of them has had dental problems, I believe it is kinda common. The one dog would have teeth fall out for no reason. The vet also removed some of his teeth too. He never seemed in pain. Ever since then, she makes sure that she brushes their teeth regularly. Call your vet to have your dog checked out

Is this a result of bad breeding, kinda like how badly bred GSDs are prone to bad hips?

do you guys brush the dog's teeth? is there tartar build up? Other then malnutrition, trauma to the mouth or poor dental hygiene there aren't any other common reasons for loosing teeth.

I brush Bear's teeth once a week, check out the jaws first, see if the dog needs some dentistry.
