so I took my sunroof all apart to clean it up and make it run good again. I noticed that a lot of my parts are pretty badly bent.
the rails that actually bolt to the sunroof are bent pretty bad and I KNOW thats not right. so I straightened them out. the other parts that appear bend are in this pic on the bottom left of this pic.
    (thanks Timbo)

those parts look pretty badly bent too, and I dont know if thats they way they are made or if they are actually BENT. if they are bent, Im gonna try and straighten them out.

    any advice?

I don't see anything bent in that pic that's not supposed to be.

are you saying that the part on the bottom left is supposed to curve downwards? because I know that the little bump on it is supposed to lock into a notch so the sunroof doesnt slide rearward prematurely. and it appears to me that the curvature of those little arms is preventing them from getting a good lock.

Don't try to bend the guide rail!!!! It's made of zinc like material and will snap off and break if you try to bend it. It looks OK to me, just clean it up and lube it good. These parts are like gold so don't break anything, especially the pull-down-shoe which is no longer available.

It all looks correct to me, but dirty. Clean & lube with silicon spray lube (so as not to attract dirt to the mechanism), adjust per Bentley.

Oh, I do see that you're missing the tiny circlip on the sunroof end of the "bent arm."

Jonny, those rails are pot metal, like our door handles. They can't handle being bent.

yeah, i agree in not attempting to bend them back. they break VERY easily--ask me how i know this! just clean it, lube it, make sure it's adjusted properly and if it's not binding, don't mess with it.

You mean this? The other part is 811877152, but that isn't currently in stock.

But, I think that they are pretty much interchangeable with any VAG car with a tilt and slide sunroof right through the 90's at least. I picked up spares for mine from an Audi.

(I'm not an expert so I can't say for certain when these went out of use)
