P0000
No Self Diagnostic Failure Indicated
#1
Check engine light is on and my code reader is giving me a P0000 code that is not listed in the Bentley's list of OBD II codes. My nose is telling me it's emissions related as the exaust smells too rich. And the car is nearly stalling at idle. Suspect #1 is the MAF but the OBD II code does not support this.

No Self Diagnostic Failure IndicatedSo basically it's telling me there is a problem but it's not sure what the prolem is? I don't need the check engine light to tell there's something wrong as it's pretty obvious when I start the car.

I'm going to replace the MAF and see if that's the problem. The car is 5 years old with the original MAF - I'm surprised it lasted this long LOL. The car's been getting terrible gas mileage lately too and I've been suspected that the MAF was on its way out.

Got a CEL again and now it's P0172 - system too rich. Again, no surprise as my nose tells me it's too rich.Anyways, the car has been off the road all week and a new MAF just arrived today. Hopefully that resolves the issue.

Could also be the coolant temperature sensor.

Replaced the MAF - problem solved. Good as new now.

Just got the P0000 code again. But this time the coolant gauge is dead - temp sensor obviously.I got a notice from VW for a warranty extension for the coolant temp sensor but I think it was for my Jetta. Figures that I get that and then the temp sensor goes on the Passat.

I've never seen a VAG COM cough up a result with no guidance/info before... would maybe scanning with VCDS for real VW codes help speed up diagnosis in this situation??

My thanks to VW's Sadist engineers who decided to put the coolant temp sensor in an almost inaccessible location between the rear of the engine and the firewall.

p0000 means no obd code found, AKA there is nothing wrong with the car.And yes the ECT is located in a fun spot! Just have to remove the intake pipe and bash off the studs on the firewall so you can fit the hand back there. Oh and if you unbolt the 13mm PS hose nut by there you can move is foward to give more room!
