If it is the HO engine, the power figures are the same.

How much horsepower does a turbo pt have? I am assuming that the 2.4 turbo is more or less the same motor that is in the SRT-4 neon. Is it just a detuned version? Different internals? How do they compare? Thanks for any info!

here's a quote to help get this topic rolling:

Oh man...I've got a PT Cruiser rental right now and if I had to drive it one day more than the two weeks it's rented for I'd shoot myself in the head! It's NOT a good rental with all the weird switch locations. You should have seen me at the toll booth at 1am trying to figure out how to roll down the damn window!

When I had my then first delivered for that dealership Turbo PT 5 speed, it put down 215hp and ~245lb/ft to the wheels, stone stock with 1100 miles on the odometer.Ran 14's right off the showroom floor with a full tank and full interior in it. I dug it, for what it was. First pass in the car was a 14.9@ 93 with an abysmal 2.2 short time. Not great, but not bad, all things considered. I miss it... sometimes. But then I remember I'd much rather just build myself a '48 Plymouth instead... for the same amount of money.

Meh. That's a minor thing. Drive a Land Rover, or a BMW. Same deal, just not on the dash where they are in the PT, instead they are on the center console.

Am I wrong or is the 5 speed in the PT different than the the 5 speed in the Neon? I know that reverse is next to first in the PT...

My GTO has them in the center. That wouldn't have been a big deal, but up high on the dash? WTF were they thinking?
It's got numerous other issues (it sounds like it's coming apart when you start it up in the mornings) but I won't blame those on Chrysler because it is a rental afterall.

I don't know what the SRT4's are running but I had a Getrag 5 speed in mine, straight from ChryCo.

Total troll response: PT Cruiser sucks. I broke up with my girlfriend when she got one.(Not really, she got it after.)

The PT Cruiser has a different intake manifold, intercooler, and exhaust, which is why it has slightly less horsepower. Its also about 600 pounds heavier, which makes it slower.

To me PT cruiser is one of the ugliest cars sold today! next to that subaru suv.

Ii dont know the PT has grown on me after driving one for aweekend, if it was a turbo 5-speed I maybe could learn to love it![]()

One is de-tuned and the other is pretty much the same as the srt-4. Atleast this is what I remember from car and driver.

Same motor, different chip. You get the stage I upgrade, you get the same horsepower levels the GTs do.
Also the above poster is correct about the small changes in the PT engine versus the SRT. Mostly due to the form over function nature of the PT.

I think the button placement is perfect. Keeps the design of the interior door nice. Also fun to screw with your friends when they try and roll the windows down and eventually give up and ask me where they are.

The evil startups are probably due to the crappy spark plug wires. $60 and 15 minutes of your time is all the PT requests.
At 70k miles, the only issue Ive had are either self induced or minor. Struts failing (lowered it and drove over a pothole), 41TE failing (racing 18lbs in overdrive), wheel bearing (another lowering issue).
A cam angle sensor and plug wires are the only Chrysler pieces that have failed me, $70 and $60 respectively. Ive had mine for 5 years so far and havent come across another vehicle I would replace it with.

Calling those doors "nice" is a bit of a stretch IMO.![]()
This noise coming from my rental isn't spark plugs. It's mechanical, like something isn't getting the oil it needs. It was warmer out this morning and it didn't do it as much. As I said earlier, it's a rental, so I won't hold that against it. I hate the interior, but I honestly haven't shopped for anything in this price range for a while, so I'm not sure how it compares.

Your rental is also either an 06 or an 07, in which they ruined both the exterior and the interior not to mention dropped the H.O. option. I also drove a PT rental (the 06) and hated it so I can see how most people whose only perception is that would say the PT Cruiser sucks.Im talking about my '03, which has a nice interior if I do say so myself.
