My IAT sensor is suffering from heat soak (16V 9a in a GLI) and I need to relocate it. I am wondering what my options are.

    Thanks! Mike

if theres any way for you to put it into a metal intake pipe (ideally one thats separated from the intake manifold by a silicone coupler) thats probably the best place for it. itll still be close to the throttle body but wont heat soak from the manifold as much as if it were bolted to it. the closer it is to the cylinders, the better...

id avoid putting it into the dirty air if you find yourself driving on dirty roads or in dusty areas. otherwise its probably not that big of a deal

Not a great idea but you can use an ABA one closed element type

I have an open element 1.8t sensor zip tied to something by the filter, never had a problem with it there.

I want to do this in my VR and I have a couple of questions I hope you could help me with. What did you plug the intake manifold with where the sensor was located originally? Is the harness long enough to locate the sensor in front of the MAF? And, would the new 1.8t sensor fit the old vr sensor's harness? Thanks.

I left the stock sensor plugging the hole. I extended the stock wires about 2' maybe more. There are lots more details in a few threads in the 12v forum.
