I found this in the label file for the Immobilizer in Passat (3C):

      Quote »
004,0,Immobilizer IV (ESCL = Electronic Steering Column Lock)
      004,1,Lock-Time,ESCL,Specification: 0.0 Minutes
      004,2,Lock-Time,Security Access,Specification: 0.0 Minutes
      004,4,ESCL,Voltage Supply,Display Range: ON/OFF

Can somebody explain to me what the ESCL is or shall I ask at Passat 3C forum?

      TIA

I wish I had Passat B6 (3C)... I am asking because somebody was trying to convince me that he could not adapt the Golf mk5 (1K) cluster because it was throwing the info in German about some "Riegel" and he thought it was the ESCL, but I believe he just did not wait 2 minutes before the immo switches from "Immobilizer Adaptation active" to "Immobilizer active"...

Adapt the 1K cluster in a 3C or vice versa?

No, no. He was adapting 1K cluster in 1K car, but he thought that maybe some model-years of 1K had the same ESCL as 3C. Which is obviously not true, but I was just curious what is that ESCL that is in 3C and is not in 1K, that's it. Simple curiosity .

I think VW's have had a steering column lock since the MK2's, the 1K as well as the 3C use an electric version of that lock and both have it since SOP (start of production), so from that perspective he wasn't right.
