Don't worry too much about the rain. I'd much rather have those temps and rain, than 70+.

Since being struck with IT band problems (again), I got back up to 3 miles with a little bit of pain, so I stopped and went swimming instead.
I hope I'll be good (strap-free) for my half/maybe full marathon in November!

Good luck tomorrow, Rob!

thanks guys! Well i hit my goal of my first sub 4 hour marathon, came in around 3:53. died at mile 19, i have no idea how guys push through the wall and keep pace in those last 6 or so miles. ran up to pace group 3:50 around mile 8 and ran with them for 1mi or so, and then keep on going. i felt like they were holding me back. sure enough around mile 22 they blew by me. i tried to keep up but didn't have the gas. i wonder if i should have stayed with them, or just kept pace.
either way, i am super stoked. the marathon is a very special event, it takes so much time and dedication, i think everyone needs to experience it at least once in their life.
some picks:
mile 21:

splits (ignore the overall distance, the time is correct):

I know I've posted this before (and some of you have been awesome and donated), but my group still needs $5,000 to reach the $30,000 goal that was set to raise for type 1 diabetes. I've been type 1 for 16+ years and that's what drove me to run the Pittsburgh half marathon this upcoming weekend.
I'd appreciate if you guys could help spread my link out to see if we can hit our goal

Two weeks til 1/2 no. 2. Last October at this time, I was battling IT band problems big time. So far so good, just really nervous about them rearing their ugly head again. I occasionally feel a slight irritation but usually not from running. As I type this out, I'm getting a pedicure. One of my running coaches recommended it, I think I can get used to them, running or not LOl.

I finally did it! I ran the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in 2:17:40 - which was about 10:31 per mile. I was shooting for 10 min/mile, but considering how hilly the course was I will gladly take it! I raised $1,220 for the JDRF, and as a group we raised just over $28,000!
Some pics:
We got in right before they closed the roads and got a parking spot with a perfect view of the starting line:
Aerial shot of the start line:
The gf went to where the car was parked and snapped some pics of me and a few others I was with (took about 20 mins to get all the runners going as there were 30,000+ running):
And my medal after I was done:
It was tough, but I pulled it off. My knee really started to hurt around 9.5 miles and I'm thinking I did something to it. Really hoping it's some kind of strain but I'm going to give it another day or two before I go to the doctor.
I'm also sad to report that a 23 year old running it collapsed at mile 12 (when I was at mile 11) and died. I watched the ambulance race past me going to the hospital - extremely sad.

Two weeks ago I felt soreness in what I would describe as my LCL. Felt 90% better after two days. Took last week off to recover and went to Vegas. On my run tonight, it tightened up again. Form? Shoes?
It's all about squats and deads.

I got a pair nike flyknit lunar one's yesterday and went for a run on the treadmill this morning (I would have much rather went outside but it decided to snow). I had only planned on a 3 mile run, and I put a towel over the display so I wouldnt be distracted. I got to what I believed to be around the 2 mile mark, took stock of how I felt and decided to do 4 miles. Went a little bit longer and took the towel off the display, and I was shocked to see I was at 4.5 miles. Decided to finnish at 5, and I felt great afterwards. This was all at an 8:30 pace.
Before this I was struggling to do 3 miles at a 9 minute pace while wearing my Merrell Barefoot Trails. Either these shoes are amazing or I just get overexcited about new shoes lol.

been running more sprints and a couple distance runs every week. on the distance runs i'm able to do about 7 miles with a few stops to catch my breath (lots of hills around me). I think i can get more however as the mileage increases my upper back around my left should blade starts getting tight and if i move my arms around it can feel like how i imagine getting stabbed feels. any ideas what causes this?
