I ran on a treadmill yesterday due to the rain. I did a 12 minute mile jogging/light running the straights (on the diagram of course) and brisk walking the corners. 12 minutes may not seem like much, but to my fat overweight smoker ass, it's pretty amazing imo. I'll be happy to get it down to 8 minutes within a couple of months.

The half marathon is one of my favorite distances, though I tend to do them as part of marathon training. As such I'm not racing them all out, just a bit faster than marathon pace. At that pace for me running a 1:25 like I did on one the other month, I'm fine right afterwards and have no problem going for another run later in the day. Hoping to actually race one as a half at a better pace to make myself feel some pain
I'm pretty much a believer that almost any run (let's say any run under 2.5 hours?) is doable for a motivated, healthy and unimpaired person as long as you are realistic with your pacing and the course. The trick then is to figure out what pace to start out at and when to adjust it if things aren't going well.

Pacing...easier said than done. I seriously find it hard to go at a moderate pace. I walk or I run. My body sucks.

Not too shabby. My goal this year is to get a sub 1:20 on my half. Still yet to run a full. Just too freaking long for me. Dont have the attention span to run that long.

That's why you do Boston, there's plenty of distractions on the course with the nearly unbroken lines of people watching. I actually ran a 1:21 on a tough course back in high school for the half. That was coming off indoor track training when I was doing events down to 200m and jumps, which has me thinking I definitely need to work on speed instead of basically ignoring it in recent years. I'll have to see on that 5k this weekend in Needham, my brother and his fiancee are going to be up so might be entertaining them. He used to run too, but haven't been able to convince him to race with me besides the Manchester road race lately.
That stress fracture thing, bit of an odd place to have one if that's the bone I'm thinking it is, but without a bone scan you won't really know if it's a fracture. Best thing (besides obviously going to a doctor, though chances are they wouldn't be able do much of anything for it anyways) would be to just take it easy a bit and see how it reacts to rest.

I use to run 5k 3x a week ~27min when I was 230 about 1.5yrs ago. I can still run ~8:30 mi but it hurts, not in the good way..possibly too heavy for running?...FWIW, treadmill slips like crazy when I try to one on it now

just got back from a 2 mile run and im very happy with the results... for me they are good and give me hope. ran the first mile in 7:15 and the second in 7:10 for a total 2 mile time of 14:25. and this with my dog deciding to take a dump at the 1 mile mark which threw my pacing off right when i was booking it and feeling great.
while i couldnt keep it up for another 1.1 miles today, i also couldnt keep that pace for more than 1 mile just a few weeks ago. that pace would get me roughly a 22:20 5k.
im confident i can manage in the 23's this weekend... especially if slugman decides to show and i have someone to chase

I just found this thread.
I'm running my first 10k in 4 years this Saturday. The goal is a sub 47min. I ran the course by myself 2 weekends ago and did it under 50min.
I'm also going to register for the Marine Corp Marathon today. I figured..."why not. I'm not getting any younger."

Anybody know anyways to improve leg circulation and easy leg fatigue? Or is it just a thing that more running cures?
Most people who do less than decent running claim problems with breathing, but I never get winded; my legs get tired and sore and slow down my pace.

if it is, this site basically says stop smoking, watch what you eat, and start exercising. if you sit at work a lot id go for a 5 minute walk every hour just to keep things flowing.

Where in CT are you? There's a great store in Rocky Hill I used to go to through high school or when I'm in the area on the Silas Deane called The Run In. Haven't been back lately and recently heard that one of the owners died suddenly. They'll check you out well and I've spent hours there back in the day. Currently I tend to get mine from the local Marathon Sports stores, a bonus being that my health insurance company gets 15% off shoes.
