Thread: Pairing junk foods and wines.

Don't laugh. My wife and I went to a wine and food weekend at the Homestead in Hot Springs,Virginia a few years back and one of the presentations was fast food and wines. The pairings were with a Big Mac, hot dogs, pizza and an ice cream sandwich. There were some other things in there but I don't remember what or any of the wines but it was a fun event.

a bottle of wine takes months, even years of preparation to reach its full potential and flavor. people take alot of time and care with the boquet of it.

fast food is designed to get to you as soon as possible. dont make it out to be something it is not, or to make it elegant by pairing it with wine. i would NEVER have wine and a big mac.

why? you dont need to have a 97 silver oak, just get something cheap

i dont necessarily agree with "pairing" junk food and wines, but i really dont see anything wrong with drinking wine with fast food, junk food, or strippers

A big Mac is more than acceptable as a pairing to a nice bottle of 2 buck chuck. Good wine takes time and care, as does a good hamburger or steak. Don't be a snob.

2 buck chuck is to wine what st ides 40 oz.'s are to beer. you cant even call that wine.

there is a difference between having wine with the food out of desperation or lack of other drinks and actually pairing it to compliment the flavors of the dish. ive been to/hosted quite a few wine pairing dinners in my time. i have some time under the belt in the wine industry.

If there is one thing to be snobby about it IS in fact wine.

    not necessarily

i often pair wines with food, but that doesnt mean you HAVE to pair a wine to food to enjoy them both

you know what? im going to drink a bottle of cornish point pinot with my turkey burgers. SHAZAM!

I just find it interesting that people get so fired up about drinking wine with a burger or about a classy offering from Trader Joe's... if you like it, who cares how much you paid for it or what you decide to drink it with? Drink Franzia with a Kobe filet if you want... drink Blue Nun with caviar... drink a thousand-dollar bottle of cabernet with a Macho Burrito from Del Taco if you desire.

    Wine snobs make me ...

There's no reason to be snobby about anything, especially wine. There are so many different kinds of wine, and one for every occasion, even fast food. I like the taste of wine, why not have it with my McDonalds instead of orange soda? There's no reason not to.

I guess the french eat 9 course meals with every bottle of wine they open...and the italians don't pair wines with simple cured meats and cheeses.

I've had spanish red wine and coca-cola mixed together before. In Spain and mixed by Spainards.

Well Chad, wine is nothing but booze.

    I'll tell you everything I know about wine;

    There are whites,
    There are sparkling whites,
    There are roses and
    There are reds.

    Some taste better than others,
    Some cost more than others,
And if I don't like the wine regardless of price or lineage...

    IT'S NO GOOD!

    Eat,drink and be merry!

I put up that Berringer White Zin image as a joke. Besides, any wine snob will tell you that a big Rhone goes best with a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and super-sized fries.

Actually, I don't care for wine at all... I can't be bothered with learning every little nuance of every winery and region and whether 2001 was a good year for Wild Irish Rose or if the Thunderbird winery offerings as of late have been much more robust. I'd rather dry-shave my nutsack than immerse myself in that stuff.

I'm just a firm believer in the theory that you should drink what you like WITH what you like. You can put ketchup on a $75 steak if you want to... you paid for it.

Ahh yes, because good taste is not subjective. As was said, drink what you want with what you want. Snobbery is saddening.

Elegant? Who drinks wine to look elegant? My parents certainly don't. I hope you're not choosing what you purchase or consume because you think it gives you a certain image.

I don't drink much wine myself but I am heavily into craft and belgian beers. I don't drink them to look better than the average budwiser drinker, I drink them because I like them.
