Hey man, the Minneapolis City Council is with you:
http://www.mndaily.com/article...67323

Quote, originally posted by MN Daily »

City Council bans car booting
Private businesses may no longer punish illegal parking by booting cars
By Anna Ewart
Jason Cooke was essentially put out of business by the city of Minneapolis.
Limited Space , Cooke's car-booting business, operated near the University in private parking lots. However, booting vehicles for parking violations is now illegal.
"They just awarded a monopoly to the towing companies," Cooke said.
Towing cars is still legal in Minneapolis, but Cooke said those businesses do the same thing as businesses that immobilize, or boot, vehicles.
"I thought Minneapolis was a progressive city," he said. "I guess it's not."
The City Council unanimously voted to ban the practice June 6 in connection with a 2008 city report on booting practices. The ban went into effect on Saturday.
The report names several "predatory practices." Booting companies were observed booting without adequate signage and without proper authorization.
Several companies also charged unauthorized fees, used intimidating behavior and threatened to have cars towed if booting fees were not paid immediately, according to the report.
Richard Tuffs, a license inspector for the city , said he has given 52 citations to booting companies over the past three years, with fines totaling about $25,000.
Limited Space has gotten three citations since 2006.

Tara Sloane
On June 6 the City Council unanimously voted to ban the practice of booting cars. It became effective on June 14. Cooke said he paid the fees, but called them "questionable."
Safety was also mentioned in the report because of the confrontational nature of the business.
Booting had been a legal and licensed private industry in Minneapolis from 1994 until now.
Booting will still be allowed in parking lots that aren't large enough to allow tow trucks to maneuver.
Ward 9 City Councilman Gary Schiff said Minneapolis was one of few cities that allowed booting, and it had a higher-than-average cap on booting fees - $103.50.
"We allowed just a huge industry to pop up," Schiff said, noting that the University area had an especially high number of complaints.
Booting is legal, but uncommon, in St. Paul, the report said.
Schiff, a University graduate, said he also plans to introduce a resolution that would cap towing fees.
Although booting fees were lower than towing fees, he said the city had more problems with booting companies.
"Towing is not as lucrative as booting because you can't do it as fast," Schiff said.
Both booting and towing are private industries in Minneapolis, which means the city itself doesn't boot cars.
Gene Buell, owner of Gopher Towing, said he was one of the first people to get a booting license when the city began allowing the practice.
Gopher Towing never received a citation, but Buell said he stopped booting several years ago after unethical practices became common.
Often, businesses would boot too aggressively and even pay off lot owners for calling in vehicles that could be booted, he said.
This type of kickback has been illegal in Minneapolis since 2005, but the practice might have continued anyway, according to the city's report.
Buell said he thinks booting was probably better for motorists than towing, but the industry was impossible to regulate.
Gabriel Hicks, who recently got his master's degree from the University , had his car booted in 2006.
Hicks was parked illegally near campus for about an hour, but he said the signs near the lot were unclear.
The man who booted him had an aggressive guard dog and threatened to have him towed if he didn't pay the $100 fee.
"It seems like it was unregulated," Hicks said of the booting industry.

I take two things away from this great thread so far:
1- Thank God I live in a small town where the city govt is the only HOA we will ever need.
2- The blue A1 next to your Audi = Awesome!
I hope this turns out the best for you & everyone else in your community. Arizona Parking Solutions sounds like a bunch of overreacting pricks.

If your garage is full, etc, you park else where and hike in, it's not that big of a deal unless you have groceries, moving or need to unload items. As I told you days ago about being turned on to these units being a friend, I'll call Chad(that also acted as my Realtor) was also somewhat in the construction business as his father was a contractor. Being a contractor they did alot of home improvements to Chad's unit, and that day where replacing all the interior trim. So as I said before they had to park directly in front of Chad's unit directly infront of the garage, up against it length wise, as not to pertrude into the street, to unload trim out of the truck to the 2nd floor and come down to find Boot Schmuck JUST finishing the boot. They where simply unloading the trim. OH! Let me tell ya, Chad's Father went F-ing nuts! Pulled a hammer rite out of the truck and threatened to kill him immediately! Chad's father charged him, the guy fled and ended up calling the cops, Chad's dad went to town on the boot! Didn't get it off but was busting out other tools when the cops showed up (yeah, Tempe Police actually show up very quick when ever there is a problem).
End of story, cop turned to Boot Schmuck,"You better have the that boot removed and be on your way." I'll just say that Chad's Father dapples in a little more then just the construction business. Nothing else ever became of that.
[IMG][IMG]
CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING BOOTED FOR THIS! I've been trying to scale through the thread, and I don't know if I mentioned this, there are a very small, maybe 50 to 1, GUEST spots. Obviously
there are errors in Mr. Edwards' aka [edited] account of the
situation. In reality, the parking situation at this community is far
better due to their Board of Directors instituting stricter parking
rules. Our enforcement activity has steadily declined, counter to Mr.
Edwards' report.
Best Regards,
Gerry Richardson, GM
Arizona Parking Solutions
grichardson@arizonaparking.com
O: 480-649-0008 X.705
F: 480-668-6629
<<<ORIGINAL EMAIL BELOW>>>
from Rob
to: contact@arizonaparking.com,
appeals@arizonapark ing.com
date Jun 18, 2008 9:48 AM
subject About that booted Audi I read about online
mailed-by gmail.com
To Whom It May Concern:
I live in NJ. I read about that Audi in Phoenix, AZ that you guys
booted then the guy pulled the car into his garage with the boots
still attached. I also read you guys started booting everything in
sight at that development for even the most minor and frivolous
violations. I don't know the Audi owner, and don't have any interest
in anything in Arizona, but this story really caught my eye.
How can you folks even live with yourselves knowing you're just
blackmailing people into paying you for the most ridiculous
"violations?"
You suck. You're like a bunch of Nazis just ruining peoples days. I
hope you lose the court case, lose the contract, the local, nay,
national news hears about it and your business goes bankrupt. You
deserve nothing less. Nothing you have done or will probably continue
to do is ethical. You folks are morally bankrupt.
Sincerely,
Rob
So: IF YOU GUYS COULD RESTRAIN A LITTLE, THANX!
You'll have to excuse some the grammer, you may need to fill in the blanks, I'm going through this trying to be as efficent as possiable.
I have not called in to the HOA President yet as it's almost 2 hours past my 12:00 Noon Update. Also, my OTHER car has expired tags (REMEMBER I NEEDED A RADIATOR AT THE BEGINNING?, COULDN'T TAKE IT IN PIECES), so I'm off to the DMV, then calling the HOA President and contacting the media.

Modified by The A1 and A2 German at 2:52 PM 6-18-2008

Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

Guys, log out of Google - your personal results tend to get sites that you post on much more rapidly than regular results.
