Thread: 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe - 65,XXX KMS

    1. 06-28-2008 07:40 AM #1
      PRICE DROP: NOW $7500!
      WAS $8500 Was $10,500

Up for sale is mint condition 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. This car has been meticulously maintained, never winter driven, always stored indoors, always garaged.

The paint is all original, in pristine condition. The Raven(gray/black) leather interior is also in mint condition(a rare interior in rare condition).

The motor is the original Ford 2.3L turbo with some bolt-ons mods. Originally an automatic car, a 5 speed swap was performed by a professional transmission shop. The auto was replaced with a World Class T5 from a 1991 Mustang, with a Spec Stage 3 clutch.

Installed in the last month is a rebuilt Holset HY35W turbocharger, 52# injectors, tuned with a Moates J3 adapter. The car has also been converted to a Mass Air meter(80mm MAF) from the stock VAM setup.
      Mods:

      Motor:
-newly rebuilt Holset HY35W turbo with 3" downpipe
      -80mm MAF swap
      -52lb fuel injectors
-3" to dual 2.5" exhaust(3" down elbow, 3" downpipe, 3" stainless flex pipe, 3"-2.5" Y, dual 2.5" Dynomax Ultra-flo mufflers, 2.5" stainless steel slash cut tail pipes.)
      -40Bob log header(latest generation, new this season) ( http://40bob.com/ )
-LA3 computer with Moates J3 adapter(tuneable with PCMX software, Moates Burn1 chip burner)
      -Spec Stage 3 clutch(less than 2000kms)
-40Bob's gutted upper, knife edged lower intakes(polished lettering)( http://40bob.com/ )
-Stinger Performance front mount intercooler kit( http://www.stinger-performance.com/stockparts.html )
      -Bailey Motorsports DV30 bypass valve
-Stinger Performance stainless braided oil feed and return lines
      -Chuck W's poly motor mounts
      -Race Engineering adjustable cam gear
-Kirban adjustable fuel pressure regulator + fuel pressure gauge
-AEM UEGO wideband O2 meter and gauge( http://www.aempower.com/ViewCa...ID=67 )
-Autometer Z-Series: water temp, oil temp, oil pressure in custom EQ gauge pod
-Autometer Z-Series boost gauge (30vac/30boost) with AEM gauge in A-pillar pod
      -B&M Pro5.0 shifter
-new Mustang leather shift knob and new leather shift boot from Mr. Gaiter.
-Gillis adjustable boost valve( http://boostvalve.com/pricelist.html )

      Suspension/Wheels:
-Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks/struts(new with warranty)
-Eibach pro kit springs up front(installed 1500kms ago)
-Mustang Bullitt springs in the rear
-Maximum Motorsports adjustable rear lower control arms(height adjustable)
      -17x9" Cobra-R replica wheels
      -new Kumho Ecsta 712 tires: 235/45/17 front(1500kms ago), 255/40/17 rear(less than 200kms)

On top of these mods are all typical maintenance parts: new rad hoses, distributer, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, new rad in 2002, TFI, coolant temp sensor, IAT sensor, TPS sensor, brakes.

For almost every modification made, I have the original part, except for the stock IHI turbo. When I added the a-pillar pod, I used a spare A-pillar from a parts car, so I still have the original. I still have the stock wheels.

More pictures can be seen at http://s212.photobucket.com/albums/cc255/grahamram/ - these pictures are from last year before the rear supsension was complete and before the tailpipes were installed.

If you would like to see any more pictures or see the car, you can contact call Graham at *

      Asking $10,500, now $9500

      WOW

      I had 2 88s and 1 87, all 5spds, still have 1 87 auto parts car.

They were a fun car even in stock form! This one is even better.

Wish I was in the market, thanks for the flashback.

If you think stock was fun, try it with double the power. ~30psi from a Holset = fun.

It would probably even pass as it is.

I had my 87 up to 245 out on the prairies, it had a wrinkled up Lrear quarter and felt a little squirrely at that speed.

ever test it on 1/4 mile?

It needed a headgasket after I got home.

No 1/4 times on it. I was planning to get it out this year. I may get it on the dyno soon.

Forged bottom end from the factory. These will take over 500hp(been done by lots of people on Turboford.net).
