well.. funny thing is.. they ARE candy!

as for the digestive system, peppermint is supposed to reduce/eliminate gas.. so, if you eat a lotta beans - an altoid overdose could be a very good thing!

I used to stay awake at work by eating a couple at once and then drinking a lot of exceptionally cold water. It burned in a good way.

A co-worker of mine goes through a box a day, every day, ever since I've known him.

    7. 06-11-2002 07:24 PM #7
[he's not here today, i'll go check...]

He has a full tin of peppermint altoids for office consumption.
If you're a friend of his, you also know that the bottom drawer of
his office has Hershey's miniatures in it at all times.

      I love my co-worrkers.

A friend of mine claims there was a study out a while ago that said eating too many of these things would do horrible things to your digestive system.
He couldn't produce the study, but it scared him sufficiently so that he gave them up cold turkey.

What are Altoids anyways? I see them at the counter at the local 7Eleven but I always thought they were some sort of a treatment.. like Tums or Rolaids. Are they just hard mint candies? They have different flavors right?

hard white strong peppermints - that's all.

      edit: u were deceived.

Did a google search for "altoid digestive"

Found out that Altoids, among other breathmints, actually contribute to bad breath. They're pretty much mostly sugar. So when you suck on a breath mint, it breaks down to carbohydrates in your mouth, which help make bad breath happen. So while in the short term you might have minty fresh breath, in a couple of hours, you might have something a little less fresh cultivating in there.

On a positive note, sucking on breathmints like Altoids supposedly provides relief for irritable bowel syndrome.

I found nothing about excessive Altoid intake. No matter, I still love 'em.

      eewww... IBS??

I only like the red tin peppermints. The blue tin ones are gross, the cinammon ones even moreso...

ewww...peppermints are nasty. for some reason, mint makes me nauseous. when my husband and I were first dating, he used to keep a tin of 'toids in his car, and in the summer, when we'd get in, it was absolutely horrible smelling. I had to ask him to give up the habit (and, sweet guy, he did )

the cinnamon ones are good, though, but they do absolutely nothing for your breath.

It almost sounds like you're talking about about chewing tobacco and a spit can in the car...yummy

yeah, wintergreen is my favorite too. But once in a while 3 - 4 of the peppermint at one time along with ice water like what Lackey said really is a good wake-up!

Has anyone tried Altoids Tangerine Sours, in the round tin? Yummy

i know what he was angling for, i'm surprised nobody has brought up the famous aspect of altoids yet (the reason for them being called "curiously" strong

An "Altoids" search on google addresses that subject
(or "urban myth" depending on whether or not you've
got your own point of reference) ad infinitum...

      it's not an urban legend

[edit] the cinnamon ones don't do it though [edit]
