There is no rubber seal in Jetta. I need to take a look at GTI/Rabbit...

It's the actual shape of the glass. The red line I added is just covering the edge of the glass but otherwise the edge of the glass on the Jetta/GLI windshield is visible. On the Rabbit/GTI/.:R32 the rubber is up against the edge but you can easily push on the trim and see it rests right on the edge of the glass. It is much more obvious in person than in the pics. You can clearly tell the glass is not interchangeable just by looking in person without removing any trim.

Correct...the Rabbit/GTI/.:R32 has rubber trim...the Jetta/GLI has no rubber trim.

I just asked bud from checkered flag vw this question. His answer:
RavenGirl (2:07 PM 8-3-2008): Hey bud, I have a question. I have an 07 rabbit and i'm curious if the windshields for the rabbit and the jetta are the same.. I'm assuming they are since the jetta, rabbit and gti have the same basic front end. I'm just curious though.
Bud@CheckeredFlagVW (6:37 AM 8-4-2008): The glass is different. Rabbit/GTI are the same, but different form the Jetta.
I'm trying to find a windshield for the rain sensor that's for the rabbit/gti and NOT tinted blue. Anyone know the answer to that?

I'm in the exact same boat. It appears if we want the RLS on green glass in a Rabbit/GTI/.:R32 there is no choice but to use the regular windshield and replace the normal mount with the RLS mount. This is assuming there is no black ceramic paint dot silk-screened where the normal mirror mounts to the glass (I will be removing mine to check in the near future). There is a DIY for installing the RLS mount already.
If there is a dot silk-screened on the glass where the normal mirror mounts then there is no alternative but to use the blue .:R32 windshield. However, comparing an .:R32 side-by-side with a GTI the blue tint of the .:R32 glass is not very obvious unless you are looking through two panes...then it is pretty obvious. I figured if I have to use a .:R32 windshield then I will just tint the other glass with 35% Huper Optic ceramic tint and nobody will be able to tell the difference.

I just removed the mirror mount on my GTI and as I suspected there is a ceramic paint dot silk-screened on the glass where it mounts. So...looks like the only way to retrofit the RLS in a Rabbit/GTI and have it look OEM is to use the .:R32 glass with RLS mount installed and deal with the blue tint.
Yet another reason the 2006 GTI and .:R32 owners are lucky!

Here in Mexico the GTI comes with the RLS and tinted green, so there must be a part number, at least in this market.
I will check it out for you guys.

Is mexico considered in the region of VWoA? (or whatever they're calling themselves now)
..if not, it may be a pain in the a** to get that part. But the part number would be GREATLY appreciated!

I´m right now sitting at the Glass shop that is replacing my rear windshield.
I have the NAGS (National Auto Glass Specification) book and states the next number for the GTI 2 door Windshield with Rain Sensor.
FW02649ad Windshield (Solar) (Rain Sensor, W/Third Visor Frit, PAAS System) (06-07)
FW02587ad Windshield (Solar) (Rain Sensor, W/Third Visor Frit, Solar Coated, PAAS System) (06-07)
      a= Rain Sensor Kit
d= High Modulus Urethane, Dam, Primer - 2 Tubes
These numbers are the Global ones (when replacing it, Glass shop use these codes) not the OEM numbers.
The NAGS states that these could be for either for GTI or R32, so I still pending getting the OEM number.
      GTI Windshield Dimensions 39.4 X 57.1
      Jetta Windshield Dimensions 36.9 X 56.4
Confirms that cannot fit the GTI into a Jetta

Any way to correlate the numbers to the VW OEM part numbers for blue or green glass?

What is a "Third Visor Frit"?
Do you mean the black silk screen ceramic paint near the top of the windshield?

Local dealer suggested European part number 5M0 845 011 F <- green tinted for vehicles w/rain sensor from the Golf Plus. World Impex shows this as a special order item with no description for $449.36 http://www.worldimpex.com/part....html

I have just had my windshield replaced for the one with rain sensor. Coding and testing of the RLS and SDM tomorrow.
BTW I recommend Windshield City if you are in NoVa. They do the glass work for Lindsey VW and Mike is awesome guy.

I also had my windshield replaced the same day as maloosheck but I went with the standard .:R32 windshield with RLS mount. I was told it is tinted blue however when I had it installed the difference is so subtle that I have a hard time determining if it actually is tined blue. As far as I can tell it looks to be tinted green like all the other windows. Could it be that VW is now supplying the .:R32 windshield in the standard green tint?
I had it done at Alexandria VW because it was muh closer to my aprtment than Lindsey VW.

Without all the windows being blue-tinted, you would probably be hard-pressed to see the blue tint in the windshield alone. If you're in the car and looking out at a white surface, you can probably see it. Even with my windows being tinted, you can still see the blue hue that the windows have.
