I'm looking into getting a MkIV VR6 5-speed, and I noticed there was/is a GLX VR6 and a GLS VR6. I was wondering if someone here could perhaps break down the main differences between the two. Also, if someone could tell me the different changes/highlights between the model years from 1999 to 2004 for the VR6 Jettas, that would be really helpful!

(such as wheels, options, etc available for each trim/year)

      Thanks in advance.

Trim. GLX are "nicer" than GLS. Standard wheels to I believe. Look in the FAQ, I'm pretty sure there's a detailed breakdown in there.

      SEARCH!!
The GLX came with every option they offered during the time they ran the GLX trim (i believe up until 2002/3). This included Wood grain interior trim, heated leather power seats, rear sunshade etc. Engine wise there is no difference. Both are available in 5spd or auto.

After 2002, the VR is 24v w/ more stock HP.

like others have said, the main difference is the interior trim and comforts. however, GLX's did come with 17" wheels (long beaches or monte's), while the GLS with 15" (avus). GLX's have leather, powered seats (with memory), heated seats, heated mirrors, auto-dimming rear view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, rear pull-up sun shade, wood trim (yes, it is real wood), and often a 6 disc cd changer. As for the headlights, the GLS do not come with foglights, but the GLX does. The only jetta headlights that are "smoked" (at least partially) from the factory are the ones that come with '04.5 GLI's. the GLI headlights also have foglights.

GLX's also have greater resale value as well because they are the "top of the line" model.

Thanks for the help. What are the wheels on the car pictured above? GLX or GLS?

They look like GLS wheels. The GLX came with Long Beaches IIRC.

There's also the GLI VR6. it came with the 24v and I believe was only available with a 6 speed manual. Came with the high-bolster GTI style seats (not Recaros like the 1.8t GLI), no foglights, and comes with Monte Carlos. Mine has the Monsoon stereo, but I haven't seen many others that do. Some also have heated seats

Thanks, a lot of people just list the car as Jetta VR6 and don't say which trim line it is, and have no idea when you ask them.

IIRC the GLX's all came with a sunroof as well, GLS's do not. I have a friend here locally selling a very nice GLX

The GLX from 2003 and up, was an automatic 24v. The GLI from 2002.5 to 2004 came with a 6 speed and the 24v. I'm not sure about the 04 model year, but my 02.5 and other 03's that I have put into ELSA for repair information cameup listed as a GLS, and the only 'GLI' is the 04.5 + 05. Kinda like 2002 GTI's being 337's because of no differentiation in VIN description

dude, get a GLX if you can. You won't be disappointed, it has things other dubs don't

      Heated Seats
      RAIN SENSING WIPERS!
electric seats with 3 memory presets
      wood grain
      full leather
      sunroof

and pure sex just smeared around the whole thing

I have one, love it more than my wolfie

The GLX from 2001 has the option for manual, it's a 12v 5 speed, I'm driving one

My 04 GTI has rain sensing wipers and I hate them - wish it had just regular delay settings

I thought the 03+ GLX was also available with a 6 speed manual also?

Weird that the 24v GLI shows up as a GLS in ELSA, cause when I insured mine, they knew it was a GLI just from the VIN

Haha I wouldn't complain. I had Allstate until I bought my GLI. But when I bought it they quoted me $600/month for full coverage insurance on it!

I gave Geico a call, and I pay them $200/month for the same coverage. So, I saved 66% by switching to Geico. Their commercials are false.

My 07 GLI shows up as a GLS... which is probably why my insurance is so much cheaper than a GTIs.
