Thread: Dachshund owners, does your dog sleep under the covers?

    1. 08-04-2008 06:23 AM #1
I've had dachshunds since I was 5 years old, and they all loved to be burrowed underneath the covers. Even during the summer, they sleep under their all night long. My recent dog is a blanket fiend. He has to have a blanket to burrow himself under, it's like crack to him Does your dachsie do this too?

Pic, my black and tan mini Leroy, with my parents red/tan Simon.

my parents have one and he's like that too.. always under something or laying on top of someone. not sure why he always has to be under a blanket, he's always really hot like he's on fire.. like he lays on you and makes you hot

We have one and he does the exact same thing. He loves this one that is knitted. It has little holes in it kind of, from the knitting, so he can still see everyone. The best is when the door bell rings and he goes crazy but wont get out from under the blanket on the couch. Just stands up on the couch and keeps barking!

      haha

Yep, ever since he was a puppy. I thought he was a freak until I found out that all dachshunds do this. Personally, I love this behavior trait but some people are weirded out when I tell them that my dog sleeps under the covers on my bed next to me at night.

Funny, it must be something inherent in the breed I suppose. Little wierdos

my girlfriend has a Dachshund and it all does is bury itself under anything it can find when its tired. Blankets, the inside of her couch, under my legs or arms. It's weird because she can be laying on you and you can move in all types of directions and she won't wake up but the second you move the blanket she darts for the nearest thing to bury herself. I love that dog

Well, Dachshunds, like a lot of terriers, were bred to go after tunneling/burrowing animals like badgers, etc. I think this would be the answer to the phenomenon.

True, but I don't have any badgers in my bed Whenever I take my dog out for a walk on my parents farm and he comes across a groundhog hole, he just barks down it. He's too much of a wimp to go into it When I was younger, my first dachshund wouldn't give up until he had the groundhog out of its hole and a nice little fight usually insued.

my father's dachshund, Popeye, has his own little bed and covers. He covers himself during the night and all you see in the a.m. is the tip of his nose... haha, they truly are little characters.

I have a dachshund/JRT. And he looooves to be under any blanket! If I'm just layin on the couch with a blanket..he has to burrow underneath. it's pretty cute!

      Emphasis on burrowing, not badgers...
