Thread: MY mk4 Recaro's in MY mk1..

1. 08-13-2008 08:40 AM #1
anyone say Recaro MK4 Seats wont fit a mk1 nicely?.....YOU WRONG!!!
the car i took mine from, was written off and chassis bent which caused my Recaro
seat rails to be bent aswel!!! so i had to fix before i could even start modding them to fit! grrrrrrrr
cut the leg right off!

positioned and tack welded, oh, and im using an arc welder, only welder i had at my disposal!

made sure the distance was the same as the stock rails:

cut the wheels:

stuff you dont need lol:

finished product:

test fitted, and i must say they sit perfectly:

anyone say nice space in the centre? 8)

yes i know the leather is shoddy, they are being recovered as soon as im finished modding them

do they ride in the same track at the front middle?

Seem to fit nicely. not much room for the back seat peeps.

are you going to mig them at all?

8. 08-13-2008 11:32 AM #8
nice, i seriously hope the full seat is a lot cleaner than the "teaser" shot

Ive got a set of 1700 mile mk4 black/gray GTI seats for my bunny. Don't care much for the MK4 recaros but loved the seats in my brothers 02 GTI.

well, i so happened to have a set of recaro's and i like em! i cant see any way possible that you can fit someone in he back, unless they in a baby chair harness on top of the seat
moving on....
im really happy with the fitment, i just have to finish mounting the fronts, the thing that really makes me happy is that, ok, im 6ft5" tall, and my head sits about a foot from the roof now, so its nice and low! and that's me sitting basically with my arse in the back of the seat, which doesn't normally happen lol
will post pics this weekend! the seats otherwise are identical in width as the stock seats

how high do they sit? (cpm[ared to stock seats)
I have a set of mk4 seats laying around, but read that they would sit too high for my caddy....

from the floor to the front of the seat.
I have corrado seats in my caddy now, and I Like them b/c they sit low....
If I put mk4 seats in, I would want them to be similar in height....

that IS fixed, that's a custom suede/red stitched headliner, my camera makes the small creases at the back look like giant faults but it looks good IRL

They would be an absolute joke in a caddy. Hell, stock seats are a joke in a caddy if you're over 5'9". Find a good set of e30 BMW seats, bolt them to the floor, and you will never worry about room again. I'm 6'2" and have probably 5" of headroom and my knees don't come close to the dash.

Ooookay...I am allowed to have a different opinion than you and I'm not really sure what the rear seat stuff is directed towards at all but alright.
More pics of how they install though are always good so thanks for the info anyway.

I have a full set of 20th Recaros in my 83 GTI. Its a tight fit. the back seats are useless because its a 2 door. but they look sick.
